Are Ipods the best?
gorgeousgirl
06-12-2008
I want a new multimedia player as my Ipod Classic is water damaged and i think beyond repair. I've always had Ipods but every one i've had seems to cause me more trouble than its worth. I want it to be able to play movies and stuff aswell as music and my current Ipod is 80gb so i want it to have similar storage space. Are Ipods really the best or are there better alternatives?

Don't believe the hype Ipods are not the best... Have you heard of iriver? This player not only grabs any ipod by the throat, but it spins them around, stamps on them ...and when the ipods asks for mercy it picks them up spins them around even more until they crawl back into they ishell.

That may be the case with the Shuffle, Classic and Nano, but the touch blows all other PMPs out of the water at this moment in time. You can't beat it for its ease of use and the sound quality's really good for once! The only thing it lacks is Copy & Paste and larger storage but good things come to those who wait.

Unless you want to be able to play DivX with 10 hour battery life for video.

I recommended my brother an iRiver but after a few months it broke. He has since purchased an iPod Nano and had no problems. The iPod Touch is really nice, but limited to 32GB at the moment. The iPod Classic and all previous iPods with physical hard drives are always prone to fail. You are best off getting an MP3 player with flash memory i.e. the Shuffle, Nano or iPod Touch/iPhone.

Well I've just ordered my Christmas Present - a 32GB Touch.

Applications, Music, Movies, iTunes = a winning combination for me

wife just got the 8GB touch and now I want one. cracking bit of kit. Incidentally she has about 41 albums, 1 movie, 1 TV show, 1 audio book, about 50 photos and probably about 8 downloaded apps and still got about 1.8GB free, So your 32GB should serve you well.

I've had my ipod video now, i'm guessing, around 3 years and I use it everyday and have dropped it around 30 times and I have never had a problem with it. I would think water damage is not the iPod's fault.

I know that. Its just that previous ipods have caused me trouble and maybe it is just me who is really unlucky but i was wondering what the alternatives are.

THANK-YOU FOR ALL THE ADVICE
I really want a touch but they are so expensive and don't have enough storage as i like to watch tv shows and movies.

Where do you get your video files from?

If there are normally torrents and suchlike downloaded from the internet (probably DivX/Xvid in an AVI container) then you'd need to either convert them first, or find them in an iPod friendly format, before you could play them on the touch.

Apple don't support Divx.

It's one of the main things thats put me off getting an Apple player so far ....

I love my iPod Video, I think iPods are the best mp3 players out there!
I love watching videos on my iPod too and the Video is great for that!

It's only broken once when the play/pause button went on it, but I sent it back and I got a replacement

I've had a few Irivers and to my ears the sound quality is so much better than the Ipod.I think a lot of people the crowd and due to a successful marketing campaign they buy them thinking they're the best out there. How wrong they are.

Headphones and EQ play a massive part in sound quality as well.

Limewire. If you make sure the file is MP4, then there is no need to convert it, it will go straight on to your iPod, well it does for me.

The bottom line with these kind of question is, go to a shop, try them all, buy the one you like.

You'll always find people who love and hate every brand on the market.
