I always think, year after year, that there is something about the acoustic or sound production that isn't quite right on this programme.
I don't mean it sarcastically as in the quality of the singing.
What I mean is, the performances all sound a little 'distant' or 'echoey'; I don't find the sound intimate or easy to listen to.
Does anyone else agree and know what I'm getting at?
If so, I don't know if it's due to issues such as the size of the studio, choice of microphones, or a loud monitor feed back to the stage thus feeding back into the microphones.

Plain inaudible on my TV - especially the first parts of songs . I even fiddled with the sound options. I note too how they get the audio right by the time of the highlights. Its as if they have a deaf soundman who takes 2 minutes to get to the right sound level and sometimes forgets to switch the mikes on at all.

Then there's the backing music and singers who do seem to have another deaf(ened) soundman cranking their volume up.

Yes, certainly the backing tracks and support singers are (probably intentionally) very high in the on air mix.
I just feel the whole show has a distant feeling to the sound, as I tried to explain.

Yes the sound is pretty bad this year. All the guests at the show have said it sounds so much different in the studio than on TV. The sound mix on Tv has made them sound worse

the backing is too high in the mix for my liking - rarely is it balanced like a CD or live concert would be.
