It's possibly just become my all-time favourite Strictly dance: so dramatic, passionate and elegant. Personally I prefer it to Zoe and Ian's tango, though I love theirs, too. Oddly, I seem to remember that at the time, poor Zoe was a contestant who couldn't do a thing right round here, either.

Though Tom is my second favourite and despite that 'big girls blouse' Brenda throwing another girlie tantrum, I'm liking the idea of an all girl final. And there's a very real possibility it could happen. Tom would have to finish at the bottom of the judges leaderboard AND the girl at the top would have to finish second in the public vote, leaving Tom definitely in the dance-off. Then, against either Rachel or Lisa, Tom could go. ![]() Have a sneaky feeling, the BBC are either going to push for an all girl final or Brendan/Camilla final. |

What was good?
Everything, from how she moved her legs, the spins, the expression and how she and Vincent connected. Brilliant! |

Personally, I didn't think it was any better than those of the other quarter finalists.

The great thing about Tango is that there are so many different interpretations out there and various ways of expressing the dance.
The thing I loved most about this one was Vincent's choreography. It wasn't a stereotypical Tango, but it incorporated all of the elements of the dance and it made me think of a couple dancing Tango in an Argentine club, rather than dancers performing it on a stage. They had a strength to their hold throughout and she hit some beautiful lines in the standing poses. They were still for moments and sharp and aggressive at others and they crept brilliantly in between the two, bringing out the light and shade of the dance. I thought the dance was so artistic and brought out their relationship. It required a lot of control on Rachel's behalf to put so much expression into the movements. I thought she did very, very well with it. So well that I would have agreed with the judges and ignored the slight slip in timing with the kick promenade section, which wasn't a big thing considering what she did in the rest of the dance. The dance was a lot more subtle than Zoe and Ian's, nothing wrong with either approach, just different interpretations. Technically I thought Rachel did a better job and so deserved the higher scores. Artistically, this Tango also hooked me in more than Zoe and Ian's - but that's just my opinion and taste. Everyone will quite rightly have different opinions on that. |

I have an almost identical opinion.
I can see how much work must have gone into getting all the details right and I appreciate that. I think Vincent gave it more time than the Cha Cha, because he made that relatively easy for Rachel to learn. With two dances to learn I think Rachel did a great job on a dance so different from what she had ever done before. |

... I just love the precision of Rachel's dancing. She is small, which can help with sharpness, which I think was there when there were sharp moves to do.
Some people prefer performance and dont worry about details, but for me, the extra trouble and skill required to get the details right, gives a dance a kind of wow factor. Quote:
Fabulous dance. Have seen it again and it only gets better. Opening sequence when Rachel pushes away from Vincent and he then grabs her back is brilliant - fantastically dramatic.
Could only be improved if Annie Lennox sang the song. Some have claimed that it was not sharp or staccato enough - I think this is just a load of monkey bollocks. There's a soft, mellow element to the song so any sharper and the routine would have been out of sync with the music. Vincent's use of sharp and soft movements was right on the money (Len said as much). Quote:
I think Vincent and Favia try to incorporate elements of "AT styling" into their ballroom tango whereas I'm guessing everyone else goes for the more classic style.
I loved both Zoe's and Rachels... but yeah each is very different in terms of choreography, style and music choice. Quote:

I'm another saddo that's watched and rewatched the dance on iplayer about a dozen times! I appreciated the clever details so much more - my favourite part being the clicking of the heels. Quote:

I would just like to add that Vincent really knows his tango, I also love the fact that he went for the sadness, longing and loneliness side of the dance. ... Excellent post from Erinfan, btw. |
