Can anyone recommend a 'cooking for one' book?

I'm sick of looking at decent cooking books in book stores only to see things like "Serves 4/6" in the instructions.

Thats great, but what if you're cooking for one?

Are there are books out there designed for people cooking for themselves, including details of how to store left overs etc?

You might reply with "Why not make a 'feeds 4' meal and frost the other 3 portions" but I get sick of eating the same thing more than twice, so I wondered if there are any books catered for the lone cooker!

Am I missing something?

It's not exactly a cook book for one but BBC Good Food books do a meals for 2 book which I think is brilliant and is full of easy, delicious and cheap to make recipes. I have lots and lots of books from the range and think they are great.

I have had two books recommended to me, both are cheap enough to take a punt on. I have ordered them from amazon, but not received them yet.

How to boil an egg - Jan Arkless
Cooking for one - Molly Perham

I have never been much of a cook, but I am so sick of ready meals, just need a few recipes to get me through.

Can you not just scale the ingredients down? If you cut a 'serves 4' meal in half, you can then have one portion then, and freeze the other for whenever you like. Or cut the recipe in four, and then just make one portion, if you know you're not going to fancy it again for a while.

All the ready steady cook books tend to cater for two people, that can easily be cut down or freeze one portion/eat it next day/etc. The recipes are cheap, easy and quick to cook too !
Couldn't swear to this, but I seem to recall Delia doing a book years ago called something like "one can be fun" - but I might just have made that up...

Though it might be better to cook for 2 and freeze the other half.

I've got Delia's "one is fun" - to be honest I've always found her recipes rather a faff and a bit heavy on the cream.

My recommendation is student cook books.
Generally the recipes are simple, cheap and geared in the main toward the single person.
My current faves are
The Classic 1000 Student Recipes by Carolyn Humphries
Classic 1000

and
Grub on a grant by Cas Clark
Grub on a grant
but theres lots out there to choose from - some nice veggie ones too.

You could always just divide the 4 serving recipes by 4.
