As a former old time and modern ballroom competitor in the 70’s I very much looked forward to Come Dancing, it was an excellent programme. I was extremely disappointed when the old time section was removed; I continued to watch it until the late 80’s when my interest waned. I was saddened when, in the 90’s Alan Yentob decided to pull the plug on it. There was nothing to replace it with.
I was therefore very happy to hear of SCD starting up, a different format but can understand there needs to be changes to attract a wider audience. I enjoy seeing famous non dancers taking to the floor. However, I never watch the series due to Bruce Forsyth presenting it.
Until he made an appearance on Have I Got News for You in 2003 he had faded into obscurity which was great. I found this man’s banter extremely excruciating 35 years ago, to hear him now is like going back in time.
At his age I admire him for his agility, he is extremely lucky to be as fit as he is, that is the only positive thing I can say about him.
I had watched about two episodes until I gave up. His constant interruption when the judges are giving their opinions makes me fume. He has absolutely no experience or qualifications in ballroom dancing but comments as if he were a professional. Indeed, I believe it is only Len Goodman who is qualified as a fellow & examiner in ballroom & latin.
The programme should be renamed Bruce Forsyth & The SCD’s because it is always about him, ‘look at me aren’t I good’
To be paid £450,000 per series is a gross waste of the television licence fee.
Recently he was on The One Show; he acted as if it was his programme, just as he did when he hosted Have I Got News for You.
When he was recently interviewed on the news regarding John Sergeant quitting he was wearing a baseball cap, is that really the attire a man should be wearing in his 81st year? He must be a very thick skinned person to be unable to see how toe curling his performances are.
I am not suggesting that SCD should be as formal as the original programme but a different presenter who is not obsessed with their selves would encourage me to watch and enjoy. Having read so many similar comments in various forums, peoples replies often mention that it would be no better if Graham Norton presented it, that I completely agree with. I would very much like to see Angela Rippon host the show, she has finesse, elegance, a well spoken voice and is dignified. All the qualities that Bruce Forsyth lacks and always has done.
I would like to see the return of Steptoe & Son; Bruce would be the ideal candidate to play Albert, coarse, common and smutty.
