DTI6300-16 woes - duff recording I can't get rid of.

I've recorded a proggie which, when I first looked at in the Library, showed as being something like 219hrs long! next time it was down to a more reasonable 41 min although it was a 30min prog with 3min top and tail. Trouble is though is that it is obviously corrupt; I can't watch it, delete it or move below it and try to watch anything recorded before it without the dtr freezing. I was low on space at the time of recording ~ 5% free and have managed to free some by switching off most of my planned recordings but to no avail; I still couldn't delete the recording.

I see from here there have software issues and have 'returned' to the newset s/w version, 3.31 from 2.99, which doubled my free hrs to 24, but still no joy deleting the offending proggie or watching older ones, although I can record, watch and delete new recordings!

I've had a look at the Kafka's World info (via Chris6 postings - great source of info) but no joy from the bugs section http://kafkasworld.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3370

What are my options? I really would like to avoid a full HDD re-format (again!)

Cheers
Ian

You go into the engineers menu and find there is a menu option that disables video preview in the record list and flip that on then exit and the next time you go to the record list it no longer tries to preview the recording and should let you delete it.

Thanks TrevorPH just popped home and tried that and it worked a treat

Hi Chris6, I must have skimmed the notes too quick 'cos it's there in 9 Bugs as

"If the box crashes whenever you try to highlight the corrupt one (typically this recording may look much too long):-
In the 'engineer screen' (Menu>Settings>Help, then quickly press 1,3,9,7 on the remote), change the setting which shows the highlight (from the default 'Off') to 'On', and then you can highlight the corrupt recording to delete it "

Perhaps the text ' ... change the setting which shows the highlight '...could read change the setting which shows the video preview' instead. I would have still missed it I guess but a bit clearer me thinks. Thanks again for the notes, a great resource and, unfortunately, much needed for this dtr.

However would I be right saying they all have their 'quirks'. Is there a gold standard dtr out there? Or is spending the extra money and time to build your own PC based PVR the best solution?

Thanks all
Ian

I now have a Humax 9200T with a 320GB disk and it is a world apart from the Thomson 6300 - in the 4 or 5 months I've had it, it has crashed about 2 or 3 times and has recorded everything that I have asked it to. The Thomson used to crash that many times a week!

And, yes, they all have their quirks!

Thanks again Ian, you are right! so it now reads "...you can temporarily change the setting 'Disable video library window' from the default 'No' to 'Yes'...."

Digifusion FVRT 100/200 is functionally bulletproof and is DIY-friendly for hardware repairs, thanks to the experts on its forum here. It uses the same TUTV stored 14 day epg, but 11 channels per page and a 'view just one channel' option. It deletes recordings instantly, has skip 30 secs if you use the 'noscenes' mod. and folders for archiving recordings. Compared to Thomson it just lacks search and series link, but you can record once/daily/weekly - once sorted no quirks, unless you count its venerable age
