I think Strictly becomes Panto in order to try and keep it jokey. Everyone is given a role and is required to play it. For example, Craig's the wicked Queen, Bruce the Jester, Bruno the pet that comes to life and Len and Arlene the ugly sisters. Tess is almost like the Dame - full of innuendo jokes indicated towards male performers in order to get a snigger. Sometimes, in all cases, it goes slightly too far.
