... or are there a lot of unpleasant threads on these boards at the moment. Have we had an influx of people from the scary boards, posting their vitriol on a hitherto (mostly) civilised forum?

Don't get me wrong, I would not want everything to be sweetness and light on every thread. People with opposing opinions can make a lively and interesting read but it seems that every time I come back on here recently, there is at least one new thread opening that just smacks of trollish and juvenile nastiness.

This is a light entertainment show with participants giving it there all and generally having a good time doing it, why do some people here have to turn it into something unpleasant?

I blame a combination of the credit crunch, the revolting colour scheme in here and too many E-numbers.

I've just come over from the Beeb boards to escape all the vitriol over there. It's positively wonderful on here compared to that!

I have to say this forum at it's worst is better than most at their best.

I haven't enjoyed the forum as much this year because of it. Having a bit of banter often involves making fun of some trait or something, but it can only be funny if it is intended to be funny and there is a bit of skill involved.
JohnfromWales and the Monkseal are a couple of examples of funny stuff which is also hard-hitting.
Unfortunately there have been a lot of snide remarks just intended to hurt - like a gang of kids taunting another kid in a schoolyard.
It has been enlightening as to how much what people perceive depends on how they look at it.

NO! You should blame EVERYTHING on Cherie Loungie!

Don't blame you Michy. I hardly post over there anymore. Even the slightest thing can end up in a 10 page thread slanging match!

I don't know why we have to a have a new thread for views already expressed on existing threads,is it because the people creating these threads are so desperate to see their name there or something??Or do they think their viewpoint transcends everyone elses? Or have they just not mastered using the search function?

I know, I'm starting to wonder now ... what are these BBC boards like? I've never had any desire to look as I spend enough of my life on facebook and DS without sacrificing it to another forum ... I'm curious. I thought you were only allowed to say nice things.

Well it doesn't help that they don't have a merger facility so you get dozens of threads on the same topic ('Lisa is fake'. 'Rachel is dull', 'Tom is smug' etc - these are the nicer ones I warn you).

Sunday evenings and Monday mornings (after the result) it's basically a no go if you want to preserve your sanity!

However, it does calm down eventually and you can have some very interesting and friendly discussions on there.

maltipom you are so right. I dare not post on any of the threads these days. the only thing I have done is press the panic button over some really nasty language and vitriol and seen that the mods have removed the posts.

It is an entertainment show, at least that is what it is supposed to be, anyone would think that it was vital to the survival of the world that anyone's favourite gets through. The only way that will happen is for them to vote and vote and vote for their favourite, always remembering that the money doesnt go to charity any more.

The result depends on the public vote it is not a cheat, not a fix, not a scam.

Lighten up, its nearly Christmas.

No its not just you . I mainly lurk here but I notice a big difference from last year when I learnt quite a bit about the dances and dance contests from reading the posts. This year the nastiness seems to dominate particularly from those delicate creatures with no sense of humour i.e todays anti-Lisa threads that followed a comment she made in jest.

Maybe the nicer posters are staying on their particular appreciation threads .

Oh and while I'm here I wish people would stop cluttering up threads with daft over-repeated comments like 'Oooh is he married' ....'he kept that quiet ' ... etc every time Tom's name is mentioned . Its way way long past being witty

I was just about to say, KipsKaz, that I thought this forum was suffering rather from its usual bout of Monday-morning-itis, a condition it seems to have been getting with increased severity every week since Cherie Lunghi was eliminated. Honestly, based on some of the posts last week you could have been forgiven for thinking that either Christine could barely shuffle around the floor and had to be dragged through the tango à la Kristina in the paso or the entire show was a complete set up to ensure that she alone was in the dance off and Rachel's being there with her was an unfortunate oversight by the producers!

OP, I wouldn't worry. Things should settle down a bit once we get closer to next week's competition and everyone has something else to focus on!

You're behind on the times, SCD. It's all Rachel's fault!

When the respected Maltipom confirms a point widely expressed, it's time for some objective research. Forumites will never admit whether they are nastier and more spiteful this year, so instead the question is asked whether 10 million viewers nationwide are disillusioned with SCD6, and this general dissatisfaction is echoed by spite and nastiness in the forums.

By the Third Last Saturday SCD audience total is generally on an upward trend building up towards a peak on Final Saturday. Third Last Saturday 2008 figure looks quite the opposite. (The following viewer totals are for the Saturday main show, average figure not the momentary peak.)

This year there are more threads than ever, but some are very bitchy comments but I blame the judges as I think it started with the 'get John out' campaigns in the papers and other TV programmes etc. and it has overspilled in the threads!

Welcome to the human race Not everyone out there is a kindly, jolly, bouncing, optimist. It would be nice, maybe, but not real.

This is real life - and where better to let rip than anonymously on a forum where no one can stop you, slap you soundly and put you on the naughty step?

Where else can Angry of Bothering-on-the Sea vent without being arrested or divorced?

I think that's the point, most of these keyboard warriors wouldn't say boo to a ghost in real life!

Slightly off topic but I always thought the saying was "wouldn't say boo to a goose". You learn something new everyday!

It's not just you, maltipom, I've noticed it too. For the most part, though, I find this a pretty civilised place and there are enough reasonable and witty voices (sid1979, TheHistoryGirl, SCD-Observer and your good self, to name but a few) to keep me coming back.

I just hope the overflow from the beeb doesn't wash this way too often.
