Shed Seven (merged)
MartinR

from their site:

Shed Seven have announced they will disband at the end of their current UK tour.

Rick Witter said that the split did not come without a great deal of thought by the whole of the band. They have taken the decision together and that all of the band members fully agree that the time is right to move on.

Although we feel that certain aspects of the music industry have put a strain on the recording side of things in recent years, the one thing that has remained consistent throughout has been the bands love of performing live and their ability to please the fans by giving 100% every time. This is exactly what we plan to do at these last remaining shows, making a special effort to play what people want to hear. This means all the obvious fave’s plus some lost gems that we perhaps haven’t played in a long time.

A celebration, a retrospective, a Shed Seven tour to remember

The Sheds would like to thank each & every fan for their phenomenal support.

November & December Tour Dates Include:
Northampton, Colchester, Cambridge, Dudley, Cardiff, Brighton, Hull, Nottingham, Leicester, Sheffield, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester & London.

I think this is a shame as they have been playing some good new material on the recent tour, and as anyone who has been to their gigs knows, it is a right old knees up.

I think the problem was partly to do with their label not promoting them, and the bands frustration at the lack of the labels support. Radio and TV don't help much either, preferring the safe route of mainstream pop.

Tickets are still available for the London gig at ticketweb.com. Its gonna be a good gig but a bit sad if it is the last time they will ever play live.

They're certainly entertaining live. But I just found, when I met them, that they had a basic lack of get up and go. I worked with the drummer's brother and I hung out with them in their dressing room before a gig in the late 90s.

I also think they went stale musically after Brit Pop started going downhill as a scene. Their style was a bit unimaginative and didn't seem to mature much.

Still, it's never nice when a record company does nowt to put you in the public eye.

They liked gigging better than records anyway.

Wonder what the future holds for these guys.

Ive got a suspicion it might be something to do with the bands name.

York's finest, and my personal favourite band from the Britpop years. I don't think there are many albums that will ever trump Maximum High in my collection, and it's a sad day for those of us who used to go and watch them in godawful dives in York (Fibbers) and Leeds (The Duchess) in the post-baggy days when nothing anyone in England did really stuck.

But i concur wholeheartedly with Schooly on this - they never seemed bothered unless they were on that stage. Witter oscellated between laconic and being a total twatface, and his somewhat arrogant self-assurance seemed to rub off on the rest of the band who i think knew that they were capable of producing the best indie singles ever (and did), but decided to ride the gravy train and half-ass the rest of their career as a polar opposite to Noel Gallagher's single-minded determination to conquer the world.

They'll be missed though - and i for one am rueing the decision not to bother seeing them in Middlesbrough last month.

Here is a biography on the band. Have you heard of Oasis ? They are a bit like them. A british guitar band.

Shed Seven have had 15 Top 40 singles at the last count.

OK thanks. That's why I've not heard of them - not keen on guitar bands.

Has anybody seen them on their Farewell Tour?

Went to the Aberdeen gig last night and it was magic.

Rick even had a good bit of banter with the crows saying the Comeback Tour was going to happen in February.

Got tickets for the 'last ever gig' at the York Barbican on December 20th. Really can't wait - think it may be quite emotional.

What was the last song in the set?

Drinking session? Who's present? You know, a decade ago i was standing in Fibbers watching a little-known local band called Shed 7 perform. It would make sense for it all to end there too

Chasing Rainbows in the encore is going to make me cry like a baby.

The guy who runs the shed seven forum at http://www.shedseven.net/cgi-bin/webbbs_config.pl/
is arranging it. Alas we got our tickets for the London gig thinking it was the last one, but Witter and co. knew they had to end it back home, and a Saturday night at York was swiftly added to the gigs.

I don't think there will be a dry eye in the Barbican when Chasing Rainbows is played. I trust you will give us a Fast Eddie review afterwards ?
