How about a change of marking ?
In ice skating they used to give one mark for technical merit and one for artistic impression, with 6.0 the maximum that could be awarded in each case.
One of the criticisms of the marking has been high marks for "dull" routines. At least a seperate mark for artistic impression could reflect the performance, rather than just the technique. In addition it would encourage the "pros" to push the envelope and devise more crowd-pleasing routines...which I am sure we would all enjoy.
I was thinking of adding a " degree of difficulty"..like they do in diving or gymnastics, but that would be too complicated. That was a joke, the first suggestion was serious.
