Does anyone know of a way to stop my Panasonic 28-PS1 automatically switching to the AV1 channel whenever I press a button on my Toshiba SD330 DVD player.... It's really annoying if I just want to listen to a CD...
Is it the TV autodetecting the Scart input, or the DVD player sending a signal that I can disable..?

This is controlled by a switching signal sent up pin 8 of the SCART lead. To stop the auto-switching, disconnect pin 8 inside the plug at one end of the cable. This will also stop the auto widescreen switching as it uses the same pin so you may have to select widescreen manually when playing DVDs.

Not trying to be rude here, but why does the TV need to be on at all when listening to a CD? Most DVD players have all the buttons you need for listening to CDs without the need to have the TV on.

No offence taken!
You're right of course... all the buttons ARE on the DVD player (and remote) but sometimes I just can't be bothered turning the TV off whilst I listen to a CD!
The more annoying example would be if I just wanted to eject a DVD from standby, and the player would switch the TV to AV in that situation too....
Anyway... I guess pin 8 is the solution (I just hoped that perhaps Panasonic or Toshiba would've put some option in the settings to disable pin 8 being used without having to resort to modifying the Scart lead....)

Cheers,
Al

I've yet to find a good use for autoswitching and agree that there should be a setting a the TV to ignore it.

I find it particularly annoying with video recorders where you are either skipping adverts or trying to find a part of the tape to record on.

Also I often have the TV on while listening to other things. I for one don't need to hear some crappy commentary on football and cricket matches for instance.

yes well you see LG have obviously thought of this!

my 21" Nicam LG TV has a setting in the menu for "AUTO AV" you configure this on or off on each channel, i have auto av (switching) enabled on all channels other than 6 (freeview) it works an absolute treat, wish more manufacturers would do it!

Thumbs Up LG!

By channels do you mean tuned channels or AV inputs via SCART etc? Or does the TV show SCART inputs as if they are another tuned channel, so that you have Freeview connected to a SCART but you select it to be shown on channel 6 even though it's not the tuner that's doing the work?
