Eoghan won't win!
I wonder what he going to do for the album releases this year though. |

Mother's day, it'll have to be, Leon Jackson couldn't pull it off and Eoghan probably won't either. They could do a Leona with Alex and possibly JLS though.

It only seemed to work for Leona - not Leon.

No, but even if he is 3rd, I think he'll get a mothers day album. But I think Paul Potts might be releasing then, so he'll probably only make it to #2.
Not sure what will happen with JLS and Alexandra. Granted, they are better than Leon, but neither have the same level of public interest just now as Leona did or even Rhydian. I wouldn't be surprised if we see either an earlier album release or else a single midyear to keep them in the public eye. |

So far the jury is out on whether it is a good strategy because we need to see final sales. However, early signs are that for most acts it is best to release while people still have an emotional stake in them. I think Leon and Same Difference might both have sold more last Spring. Rhydian is still selling quite strongly so we can't say and his sales have been complicated by some shortages.
If you're going to wait, the return must have the Wow factor. They achieved that with Leona and Bleeding Love. (And again this year with Run as both her single and album has outsold the others again, despite the album being a re-release.) Otherwise, I think it is probably best to strike while the iron's hot. I doubt that Eoghan has that Wow factor potential. As for Alex and JLS, it depends how much they are prepared to invest in develop something special. It's clear that Leona's debut had extra backing due to the American money. |

Eoghan's fanbase are more akin to Leon's and will have moved on in less than a year's time. It's worked for Rhydian as well as runner-up (despite absurd under-stocking by stores on its first day of release and the problems with the Woolworths-owned distribution company meaning stocks were not replenished until the middle of the second week). I think it would work for Alexandra but I'm in two minds about it working for JLS. |

Eoghan has the exact same limiting factor that ALL the contestants will have. People are talking about him as if he's different to the others because the majority of the board don't like him, but they seem to live in a different reality where it's technical merit that's going to make people buy records ... but as always, the no.1 factor is the material that's written for the artist.
For example, Shane Ward's voice is pretty damn good from a technical standpoint, but I'd say the material wasn't good enough to give him longevity. Whereas Girls Aloud are far from being an amazing group technically, but they've succeeded because they've worked with xenomania and thus come out with some cool stuff. This fantasy of technique being the be all and end all is about to be rudely disrupted by the need for someone to write the winner, whoever they may be, good material ... and this is something that most X-Factor winners have not had. The 'X Factor' is just that - indefinable. It's not just control or range (although they can massively help), it's the connection that an artist can make to an audience. People say that Eoghan doesn't deserve to be there, that Alex is Leona lite ... but they do deserve to be there, because they've made enough of a connection to get people to vote for them. Only time will tell what their careers will actually be like, you never know. |

You wouldn't say that about JLS if you'd been in Peterborough or Croydon today.

I feel sorry for Eggnog... in a years time he will have grown up quite a bit and lost his so called cuteness and who will want to buy his album then
![]() The tweenies will have moved on... the grannies will not think he is cute anymore ..... and I doubt he will have the phwoar factor as I don't think his "cuteness" will translate into handsomeness... I think he will look quite unhandsome and that dosn't sell albums. I think it is best if he comes third on saturday and goes back to a normal life.. at least he has lived his dream. I honestly don't see a future for him in show bizz he just ain't got the X-factor!
