Lidl Silvercrest question
I purchased a DVD Silvercrest player from Lidl, and with it came a CD with Nero 8 Essentials on it. This appears to be a trial version only. I already have a copy of Nero 6 and would uninstall this and install the new version, but not if it's just a trial version. Can anyone confirm the position here?

Run the setup program. If it says TRIAL in the program name, it'll be a trial. If it says trial anywhere, it's a trial. If it has a CD key, it's probably not a trial (unless it sepcifically says "Trial Key").

It does say "Trial" when I run Setup, but also says on the CD label, "Not for resale" and "Bundle with hardware only" Does this tell us any more?

Bits of trial software get bundled with hardware all the time.
By all accounts this is a "plays almost anything" scaling DVD player with USB socket & 7 in 1 card reader, onboard DD & DTS decoders , SCART, component, VGA out, built in test patterns, 96kHz/24bit, optical, coax + 5.1 out analog out, DivX, MPEG4, WMA9, and on and on...all for about £30. Flippin 'eck, some people are hard to please ![]() Edit: It's got HDMI too!! Edit2: Nero 8 essentials OEM - about a fiver from here: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128287 |

It's not got HDMI and dont think it does upscaling. I'll stick with XBMC. Last edited by NineT9 : 09-12-2008 at 06:57. Reason: New info |

I haven't seen one myself, but this bloke has... Quote:
Out local Lidl have 2 dvd players on offer at the moment and I'm looking at getting 1 of them. But I'm a little unsure of which to go for.
The cheaper 1 is the £32.99 HDMI player branded as Silvercrest. I did'nt give this 1 to much attention at first. But it it does play mpeg4 files and has the HDMI connection of cause. "There is a DVD player on sale in lidl for £32.99. It lists in the spec 480p up to 1080p" ...and then there's the consensus opinion that this is the manual from the Silvercrest website http://www.mysilvercrest.de/foto/sup...517_18_LB6.pdf Quote:
HD resolution: Here you can select from several resolutions for the HDMI output. Check, using the playback device's instruction manual, at which resolutions (480p/576p/720p/1080i/1080p/Auto) are supported.

Ah, now I was looking at the link you posted originally (http://www.dv-rec.de/test/player2006...6511/6511.html) where there are no HDMI slots on the back and the review says "no" to 720 or 1080...
Still prefer XBMC
