Not Getting The Hype, My View on X-Factor 2008
I look back at the final 4 of this year and think, whats the fuss?
JLS, mildly entertaining but destined for nothing major outside the UK, if they last that long. A huge novelty act who don't do anything new with inconsistent and lacking vocals to do anything real justice. A studio could probably garner them a one off album before they fade Diana, building on this quirky voice epidemic that British female artists seem to have caught upon in past months. The winning song, designed for her voice, is dangerous in other hands. Too annoying to win over the public vote Alex, good voice. But thats it. She's not as good as Leona, she's not even on the same planet as a Beyonce or even Rhianna (despite the claims of the judging panel, who become more delusional as the weeks go on) I think people are getting far too excited over her because its such an average vocal competition. In terms of where music is at, I think she's 3 to 5 years too late Eoghan, A personality vacuum. I cannot work out who is voting for him. Weak, weak vocals that are drowned out by excessively loud backing tracks and run of the mill performances. Summar They all just seem alright. Average, run of the mill and if one of them puts in a good performance then its jumped upon because it such an average set (not that I'm saying anyone who was knocked out was any better mind) The Judges. Danni - Seems resigned to the position of 4th judge, not much to say Simon - I'm not sure he even cares anymore, I wouldn't blame him, he himself has mellowed to a level of predictability Louis - Is this an actor? Seems to be creating somesort of vapid tenous caricature of himself Cheryl - I don't get the fuss, Yes she's quite gorgeous but she never gets off the fence and has an inability to give a direct point. Still, something for Dad to look at Then again, I'm one of the 82% of viewers who didn't vote in the semi final, so maybe it's not just me |

The worst thing that ever happened to X Factor as a show was Leona Lewis. She raised the bar too high, what was once before an almost light hearted search for a famous-for-15-minutes act had suddenly become a show where they do actually discover incredibly talented singers like Leona Lewis.
Well it was all bound to be downhill from there. They'll never find another voice like that and, two series removed from Leona's win I think Simon Cowell knows it too, which is why he is lacking spark and seems so disinterested sometimes. |

Leona is a one off in the female catagory so anything else is going to seem crap in comparison. That is why I want JLS to win this time. ..... I have no illusions that they are as good as Leona, Will or Rhydian but they have a spark of fun and a great chemistry and sing and dance well enough to entertain and have the looks to keep the teenagers happy. JLS to win. It would be more refreshing for a group of lads to win and get away from the shadow of Leona. If Alex wins (and I will be happy if she does as she is good) it will draw too many comparisons to Leona and she will always come off 2nd best.

I agree with you to a point but we have had Will Young (pop idol) I have seen him live and he is great. And Also Rhydian whose album I brought the day it was released.

First group so something new and along with that some fresh ideas for marketing them. I mean I wouldn't buy their record but I can see how done well they could appeal to many people. Alex as runner up, she would be okay, she can sing and she would get a deal but without the stigma or pressure of being the female X Factor winner who isn't Leona, I think it would help her in the long run. Win or lose Eoghan will have a five minute pop career and that will be that. |
