Actually that's only just changed.

Before this series Natasha Kaplinsky held the record for the Rumba (36) jointly with Colin Jackson.

On dancing abitlity Rachel should win, but Tom may win on personality.

The judges marks have become meaningless. This is another reason for the widening gap between the public and judges. It may not matter to new viewers but many people here have watched every series ( like myself )..we want to see continuity and marks that give a fair reflection of performance. We all "know" who the better dancers were but it is still annoying to see these absurd marks for mediocre performances.

Honest to God, 30 is 75% of 40. In virtually any other discipline 75% is a damned good mark.

I just deplore the gross devaluation of the marks this series. It makes me cross.

Even crosser than Miss Hissyfit-Cole.”

I so agree with you. I'd say though that it is surprising that Alesha never got a 40 when you consider some of the performances that have been given a maximum score - particularly recent performances.

I feel the judges have grown far too generous with marks as time has gone by.

It's a bit like GCSE results innit

every year everyone appears to get 10 A star grades which is closely followed by business leaders pointing out that most of the people they recruit from school can't spell or add up

award 10's as often as you like judges, but don't waste time pretending that they mean the dance is the pinnacle of fabulousness because it doesn't (John Barnes salsa anyone??)

They have painted themselves into a corner this year, leaving themselves no room to get the dances in the correct order. They are supposed to rank the dancers in order, not hand out sweeties.
The practical way to do it is to decide after everyone has danced, then each judge places all the dancers in order, from best to worst.
That takes away a lot of controversy, drama and mistakes, and produces a fairer system, so I doubt it will ever be done.

For me Rachel has been over marked.

She just doesn't have the wow factor and I will not remember her dances in years to come.

This is not bitchy or vicious I wish I was wowed by her I might then enjoy more of the programme.

Totally agree.

The trouble is that we are told all the time this is the best yet.

That's the problem, there seems to be a need to prove that this year is the best year EVER!!!!! When in reality the standard hasn't changed since season two, there may be a higher standard for the dancers in the middle of the leader board but the talent of the dancers at the top has roughly stayed the same.

Shame about Colin Jackson not holding any records now, his quickstep was great.

He still holds the Commonwealth and European records for the 110m Hurdles. It would be a bit tough to expect Rachel to break those.

Quizmike, did you see that they published the detailed results of the weekly X-Factor voting (on the X Factor site). I suspect it was done to highlight the SCD voting catastrophe.

are the judges marking it? If so you never know she might just break it.

Not if it was up to the judges, it wouldn't.

Mark Ramprakash (Salsa 40, AT 39)
Alesha Dixon (Cha Cha 39, VW 38)

Thanks for the info - although I seem to remember from Saturday's show that Rachel also holds the record for the Argentine Tango jointly with Mark Rakprakash as she also got 39.

Yes she does thats correct a joint record for the AT with Mark.

Although this isnt a record record Colin Jackson still holds the record (36) for the best male celeb rumba which I think is significant considering the rumba is regarded as so difficult for the male celebs.

At least we know with Rachel doing the foxtrot and rhumba in the final that shes not going to have any more records. (shes already got both those 2).
Theres a chance Lisa might take Aleshas cha cha record of 39. It just depends on Craig giving her a 10 which he probably will.

I wouldn't have had a problem with Alesha not getting a 40 had Matt not got one for his fairly pedestrian waltz, particularly as her waltz was so good

no way was Austin's paso the best ever - no way!! Jill's and Louisa's better in my opinion (he even nicked Jill's music)

I think what they are actually highlighting is that this is the most competitive year ever - which is a different thing entirely!

For me, ultimate wow factor is still Alesha and Matt's Cha cha cha - do yourself a favour and have a look on youtube now! Then compare the tempo to Rachel or Lisa's cha cha.

Rachel thoroughly deserves her record for the Rumba - it was outstanding! But for me her foxtrot and tango were overmarked. I can name at least 3 other dances for each that I thought were superior!
