BBC to reveal voting figures ?
Fatima502

It would be fascinating if after the final, the BBC revealed on the SCD site exactly how many votes were cast each week and for whom.

Then we will know for sure if John Sergeant really was in danger of winning the thing, as well as if the public and judges were ever in agreement.

Anyone know if there is any prospect of this, I can't see any need to keep them secret after the series is over.

In short, no .
Every year there is a clamour for this.

I would be shocked if figures were revealed .

No chance.

SCD, X Factor, I'm a Celeb, Big Brother, Dancing on Ice, I'd Do Anything, Maestro, The Underdog Show, Fame Academy, Dance X, Hells Kitchen....

All shows on all platforms on all channels have never released the voting figures (well at least not since at least 2001 as discussed on other threads)

Not quite, they did release the figures for BBC Sports Personality last year and in 2002

I read somewhere ITV are releasing the voting figures for X Factor once it's over.

I'd be surprised if they release them for SCD though as I suspect they are pretty incriminating.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the correction

Incriminating???? In what way? Who's going to be arrested over voting figures???

Well that's what I was thinking, what harm would it do ? I can see that it might make a difference during the series as it could influence people's voting intentions.

In this day and age they ought to be open about everything, why not.

I know that none of these figures have actually been revealed, but I was under the impression that under freedom of information, the viewers were entitled to this info. Have the BBC and Co found a way around this? Or do they just keep saying, 'Oh, we'll reveal them next year' and never quite get round to it.

It could damage the celebs potential earnings maybe?

Under freedom of information, you're entitled to know what information anyone holds about you. I don't think you're entitled to know about anyone else and I'm not sure freedom of information guarantees the public the right to know the voting figures... although it'd certainly be interesting to find out if we have that right!

I dont think John ever could have won. This Semi Final week would be so easy to manipulate for the judges - he would have had such a slim chance to make it through the bottom two.

I was reading on the guardian website today about someone asking the BBC for information on the number of employees that were Oxbridge Graduates, they gave a response to this, so I decided to do some more digging.

I found this response on the www.whatdotheyknow.com website in response to a request for voting information on match of the days goal of the month competition

http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/reques...ponse.pdf.html

It basically states that this information is not covered by the freedom of information act. I would assume a similiar response to a request for SCD voting figures.

Thanks Isopap for those clarifications. Doesn't look like this info will find its way into the public domain. Unfortunately

Yes - but if there was a four couple semi as planned then he could have made it through to the final 3. The judges would need to second guess the public vote.

My assumed scenario would be the following (judges score first i.e. John bottom with the judges and top with the public)

John 1+4 = 5
Tom 3+3 = 6
Rachel 4+1 = 5
Lisa 2+2 = 4

John and Tom go through due to a higher public vote with Rachel and Lisa in the dance off.

Then the final would have all been based on the public vote i.e. John winning. If only we could have had the chance to find out!

It doesn't and you don't.

It's been asked already under FoI and the Beeb have refused citing commercial confidentiality.

It's on an old thread somewhere - look it up if you want the details.

figure of speech.
But something tells me a lot of people who voted would be annoyed if they were released.
