Please stop mentioning Fred Astaire.

I wish they would stop comparing these celeb dancers with the maestro F Astaire.
According to them they have been dancing only a few weeks and to say they are similar to a professional dancer who had been in the profession for many years and was world acclaimed is ridiculous.
They are good but nowhere near that good.

I don't think that's what they mean. When talking about the American Smooth and Fred Astaire, i'd think most people, of a certain age would know exactly what they mean, a certain flair, glitz, glamour not seen in the other Ballroom dances.

Colin had it all in his dance, but Fred he aint.

Yes indeed - although in all honesty Astaire's choreography (with Hermes Pan on at least the 1930s RKO films) was much more interesting than the American Smooth choreography on Strictly - and you certainly didn't get Fred trying to lift Ginger over his head or anything like that!

Just watch Tom's attempt at the "Nice Work if You Can Get It" drums dance from "A Damsel in Distress" and then compare the original... (they're both on YouTube).
