Profile madness
Does anybody know if profile 2.0 discs(BD Live)will work on a profile 1.0 player(Sony BDP S300) I have recently had two profile 2.0 discs that won't work on my player.

At a bare minimum, the movie should play (that's what I understand anyway) but some of the extra features might be problematical.

Yeah the Profile 1.1 and 2.0 specific features won't work but as long as the 1.0 player has the latest firmware perhaps released specifically with disc computability in mind it should be fine.
Which discs? There may be a known issue with them. |

Thanks for your replies, but unfortunately I cannot get any firmware upgrades/updates for my player,as it doesn't have an ethernet port on the back. The discs in question Jarrak are The X-Files I Want To Believe, and Hellboy II. They just don't load at all. I think I will just have to buy a profile 2.0 player instead.

I did this on my Sony BDPs300 and it made a bit more updated (probably V1.00000000001 profile no doubt!) |

Some Hellboy2 owners have said when initially inserting the disk it can take a long time to get going, linked to BDLive but I would assume that shouldn't be a problem if the player doesn't support the option in the first place. I just got the movie myself and the first thing it does on the PS3 is download some data over the ethernet link. The X-Files is also a BDLive title and I suppose it would not be a surprise to find that these disks are far more flaky when used on non P2 players then they should be, perhaps it is a matter of the player getting new firmware. |
