Brendan totally missed the point. Yes Austin was overmarked, but all the contestants have been at some stage - including Lisa for a very mediocre Jive.

So his argument fails to hold water. He was just looking for an excuse to vent his uncontrollable temper (which I perceive as petulance, not passion) and by putting it across in an 'eloquent' fashion tonight was mere damage limitation.

I still find the man bitter, hypocritical and unsporting.”

I agree. I still don't see what the fuss was all about, the salsa was better than the jive, which was very mediocre. I wonder how much would have been said on ITT tonight had Austin got through to the semi.

I'm not a fan of Brendan's and thought he behaved like a petulant child on Saturday when he stalked off, but I did think that he made some valid points tonight. The judges have lost the ability to be objective and the competition is not a level playing field. Tens have been given out like they are going out of fashion, even if mistakes are commited, and the way the judges are judging is ridiculous!

As so many of Brendan's supporters seem to appreciate honesty so much, I'd just like to say to musicangel as the OP that imho if you think Brendan put his points over eloquently tonight, then I think you've led either a very sheltered life or a very harsh one.

And thats all what brendan was trying to say but it has just been labelled the bad boy is back!

Apologies, my frist reply was a bit harsh, not had the best of days, and came here for some old fashioned escapism.

I don't think anyone but the most churlish could take any objection to Lisa and and Brendan's interview tonight. It has greatly increased my respect for them both. The sight of Brendan wiping away a tear on Saturday night was certainly something I didn't expect to see and he was so honest in his explanation of his behaviour after the judges announced their marks for the Jive.

I though I'd put on the flak jacket and wander over here to see what was being said.

Sure enough, the churls are alive and well and some of them have been busily posting tonight, thankfully interspersed with voices of sanity, especially the totally admirable music angel.

You guys really should wake up and smell the coffee. The world is in economic recession yet all you can do is vent your bile and venom about a dance programme. You know, something that's meant to be light-hearted entertainment and help people take their minds off more serious concerns.

Don't bother to reply unless you have a considered opinion to express. I'm out of here anyway.

Let's stick to commenting on SCD and the participants and not each other. If not it would soon be mayhem on here.

Buddy and musicangel - This isn't meant to be a dig at either of you as I'm sure you didn't mean to upset anyone but we all need to be mindful of the DS rules - more than ever given the current climate on this forum!

I think as the professional Brendan is entitled to have an opinion. And the marking has been bonkers this series - even the judges aren't agreeing are they? One dance got a 7 and a 10 so what's that about?? I am an Austin fan but I do believe the 10 wasn't justified, nor the 9 for the jive as Brendan said. But on Saturday night I am sure he said of the jive 'It was worth more than an 8...' So he has contradicted himself there.

I didn't like Lisa going on about how much technique she showed in the jive compared to Austin's salsa - I don't think it's right the celebs should comment about each other like that. And I don't think it will do her many favours. I for one hoped she'd make the final over Rachel as I find Rachel a bit dull (sorry Rachel fans!) but that has put me off Lisa I'm afraid.

wouldn't it be lovely if we all just got along?

wouldn't it be lovely if we all understood what the other said and, more importantly, meant?

I know I'm a dreamer, but wouldn't it just be lovely?

I think Brendan was probably being totally honest in his views. It's not as though he hasn't made a point of sticking up for other contestants in recent weeks, is it?

Hiya

I think (im a bit tired) she said she lacked some of the technique, not that she had that jive action or somat like that, not that she had it.

She was saying she didn't have perfect jive action/technique rather than that she did have.

You missed my point Cat. I was implying that eloquence does not make everything alright.

But no hard feelings I hope

I've always maintained that Strictly is about entertainment, and if Brendan brings entertainment to viewers then I'm all for it - however much I dislike the man!

I felt he came across as foolish tonight. The fact that his own partner has been a beneficiary of over-generous marking left him sounding rather hypocritical.

He then went on to acknowledge that Lisa herself had been over-marked which left me wandering - what was his point? Both she and Austin have benefitted from overly-high scores. Surely that makes them even? So why the need for him to kick up a fuss?

What the hell is Brendan and Lisa got to moan about. They are still in the competition are'nt they? I could understand if it was Austin and Erin moaning and feeling hard done by. "Move on Brendan, you are still in!"

A good point. Brendan has said on several occassions that he did feel they didn't deserve their marks (notably the 10 for the cha cha and the 9 for the jive). The other times, he probably felt that they did deserve the marks. That is of course highly subjective and probably where you come in saying it wasn't worth the points. Which is your good opinion.

As far as I understood he complained/threw a strop (delete as applicable) because he felt that Austin was measured with one stick and Lisa with another and that's why he said they all wanted to get to the final, not just the boys.

I agree with what Brendan said tonight to a certain extent - the marking has been ridiculous this season and has not been a level playing field. And if he thought Austin and Erin had been given a 10 I understand it even more. However storming off was not the way to deal with it. I also think it was slightly hypocritical as Lisa, perhaps more than anyone has benefited from over-generous marking, especially with her cha-cha last week and jive this week. I respect Brendan for saying that they did only an ok dance, but it was an ok dance that didn't deserve the scores it was given and was overmarked more than Austin's salsa.

I fully admit to not being a fan of Lisa, but I try to give credit where it's due - her waltz was stunning on Saturday. Not worthy of 10s in my opinion, but then very few of the dances that have received 10s this year have been, so in the context of the marks given this season they were fair. Her jive was way overmarked, in comparison to jives of other contestants. I was unsure if I was being fair thinking that so I asked a lot of people at my dance class last night and the general consensus was that she had been ridiculously overmarked for it.

Well I am not sure I can cope with Rachel in the final so maybe I will

IMO he wasn't moaning, but given a chance to explain why he reacted the way he did on saturday.
