Nostalgic food
OH and I recently had a sudden craving for Primula on Ritz crackers, just like they used to be served at kid's parties in the 70's. We are now sadly addicted to all things Primula.
Anyone else with any nostalgic food addictions ? And does anyone remember a chocolate bar called "nuts" ? |

Used to have that quite often when I was kid. Yum! |

Those ice cream cones filled with mallow and covered in sprinkles you get at the bakers.
Went to a great Italian in Bournemouth a few years back where they had prawn cocktail in those little silver dishes, lasagne and a slice of garlic bread and artic roll - talk about retro! My OH likes to get sandwich spread, which my nan used to love. To me, it's vomit in a jar! |

Strange you should say that, I have just started buying Primula again (the one in the tube) The ham one is yummy.
One food I never see anymore from the Seventies is vol-au-vents. I used to adore mushroom ones or even salmon. Finished off with American Cream Soda float from a Soda Stream. |

I made up my own dish, though I haven't tried it since I grew up - maybe I should?
It was pork luncheon meat (the round slices), baked beans and mashed potato. I mixed up the beans and mash then scooped them into a slice of meat which I rolled into a pancake. It was luvverly ![]() G Oh and I REALLY miss those multipack custard powders - they did us for dessert all week! There was chocolate. lemon, banana, vanilla, strawberry and raspberry I think. Oh, and banana, sugar and milk. Dunno if that was just us though. Last edited by cobaltmale : 12-12-2008 at 09:51. Reason: Keep having further flashbacks |

Anyone remember 'Superwhip' ? it came in a round tub [like the Vitalite margarine tub] , it was widely available in the mid 80s and was absolutely wonderful on Apple and Cinnamon Pie or Pineapple 'Upside Down' Sponge Pudding . It was so full of fat and sugar you could have a coronary just reading the label and it was withdrawn after a few years .The brand was carried on with Superwhip Lite but it wasn't the same. Lovely stuff - wish they would bring it back !

This wouldn't have anything to do with Primula currently running an ad campaign? It's welded into your subconcious.

Tesco are currently doing half-price on all their party food which includes vol-au-vents; I nearly bought a pack yesterday but I'm not over keen.
Yup, there's a whole lot of food that only appears in the run up to the party season. I wish some of it was available the rest of the year. G |
