I have a Sony DAV-DZ260 Home Theatre System. If I connect the PS3 to my television with a component cable and the DAV to the PS3 with a HDMI cable, will I be able to use the HDMI for audio?

I've currently got the PS3 connected to the tele with the HDMI, and an optical cable between the PS3 and DAV. But I've heard that the sound is a lot better with HDMI.

As always, any help is appreciated.

According to the spec, I don't think your Sony DAV-DZ260 has a HDMI Input Port. Only an HDMI output to the TV.

I wouldnt have thought that HDMI sound would be any better than digital optical.

I doubt standard DD/DTS would sound any different whether it's passed via optical or HDMI, but I have a feeling the OP was referring to HD audio, Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA audio, which is far superior to DD/DTS and something their system will not be able to produce.
