My skybox won't turn on, we've had it about 5 years or so and in the last month or so it's been making odd noises every so often but today I can't turn it on and it seems like there is no power going to it as the red standby light isn't there. I have unplugged it all and left it for a while but still no joy.

Can anyone suggest anything?

If someone can help then please do, Sky is the only way I can watch any TV including BBC and ITV and it's starting to get me down.

Check the fuse in the plug..

Check the cable into the back of the unit

If those are both okay, I would say "probably the PSU has died"...

I am sure there are some others in here, who can give you more to try out.

Depending upon the Box Make/Model, they are repairable - but not economically for the non-DiYer.

You will probably need a replacement.

Either blag one from Sky, purchase one yourself or, depending upon what you actually tend to watch, nip out to Argos and grab a Freesat Box for around 50.

If you are not competent to repair one yourself, your best bet is to buy another second hand Sky digibox from ebay. I reccomend any of the Panasonic boxes from TUDSB31 upwards as they can be had easilly for 10, or if you want the best the Pace DS430N or 2600C1 but they are a little more expensive.

At these sort of prices, it's simply not economic to pay someone to repair them, just buy another one.

If you have a premium (sports or movies) subscription, you will need to phone sky to pair your card to the new box, but if it's just a standard subscription, or even no subscription, it will just work.

if you subscribe to sky phone them tell them the box is dead. they will try to sell you a new one. tell them you cant afford it at the moment and will have to cancel your sub. they will probably give you a new one.
