I'll be there

Speaking of stamina, I will need mine tonight - I have a date with a rather sexy sparky!

The licence fee pays for the programmes to be commissioned and broadcast, it conveys no other rights.

But surely those who commission and broadcast have a responsibility to respond to what the public want. Maybe the licence fee doesn't convey any actual "rights" about quality of programmes as such, but I certainly think they're implied. The producers of a programme that bases its success largely on the involvement of the viewing public should listen to them.

And how many people are presuming that they speak for the public as a whole?

You might see an implication, I do not. And you now talk of "quality" whereas previously the talk was of content.

The success of SCD is seen, I believe, on the basis of the viewing figures of 10million, not the number of people who phone-vote.

I give you the the second point. The choice of competitors in a celebrity reality tv show is not the domain of the public. Fair enough. And with that, my original reply to your question is made redundant.

However, on the topic of your third point , while the overall success of the programme may be down to viewing figures, my comment was about viewer involvement. I very much doubt the programme would be as popular as it is without the voting aspect. However, that point is about the show's format and has nothing to do with Austin appearing on an end of series Christmas bash.

For goodness sake ...the producers would just snigger .
No .... they would guffaw .”

in your opinion! I will sign!

I take what you are saying, however, I am a firm SCD viewer, but have never voted. There are likely to be many others like myself (an opinion, not based on any scientific or polled data).

I'd say there are, but that doesn't mean that removing the public vote wouldn't affect the enjoyment of those viewers too. I rarely vote (have voted in two series in the final only) but I think that I would be significantly less interested in the show if it was purely down to the judges' votes and had no suspense following that. I think (only think of course, no statistics to hand) that viewing interest is piqued by the fact that the public can overturn the judges' opinion even if they themselves don't vote. You may not be one of these people but I believe they exist. And in numbers.

Are you sure this programme is right for you? I mean this in all kindness. Your posts are becoming quite erratic now. Are you OK?

Why did you bump this thread right up again?

Seeing, of course, I did the same now...

Excellent. Couldn't agree more.

I don't want Austin in the Christmas Special.

Nothing against him but it's the top three that go through and Austin came fourth. You can't just make up the rules because you don't like the result. I mean I could say that Plymouth Argyle should be in the Champions League cause I like them. Where does it stop?

Anyway, I hope the BBC will respect my point of view and not put Austin in the Christmas Special.
