I won some cash on the Irish lotto last weekend and going to use it to buy a new tv. I'm thinking about this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...7C10199303.htm

Anyone know if they are any good?
Sainsburys had 37" for around the same price last week, not sure what brand though.
I'm looking at £400 - £450-ish 37" - 40"
What I'm going to do with my 42" Toshiba RP TV I just don't know, everyone want's LCD's these days.

Have seen the 32" HD Ready set and I was very surprised by the PQ, it was very good, this was via the Digital Tuner. I am not sure who makes the TV but for the price and size it is good value.

I've heard some shitty things about accoustic solutions. You get what you pay for, apparently they have bad picture blurring on fast moving images...just what i heard.

Go to empire direct and look for voucher codes. I got a 46 inch 1080p Sharp LCD TV for 680 quid delivered.

You are downsizing your TV, are you sure that is what you want? Also are you sure you need a 1080p full HD TV? You may be able to get a better quality plain HD ready for a similar price (a Panny 37PX80 plasma can be got for just over £500).

Its ashame you didn't win it last week.
I just got the 42" same tv for £440 from Argos last tuesday, but its now back to its price of £570 or something.

I would recommend it.

Its a vestle tv btw and I can give you the engineering code if you need it for tweaks etc

I don't want to downsize, if I can get a 40"- 42 " for theright price I will. I just want to get rid of the bulky RP TV.
Whats wrong with 1080p. And is plasma a better picture?

There's nothing wrong with full 1080p and if you sit close enough it may be better. However if you sit more than a certain distance away then there is no benefit and you are spending money (for the extra pixels) with no benefit.

How close do you sit?

You can get a 42" HD ready plasma from Samsung for not much more than your budget or a slightly higher price for an HD ready LCD from the same company. Also just above your budget are 37" plasmas from Panasonic. These TVs are not full HD 1080p but they'll give a better picture than a full HD one for the same price especially for SD.

Our Samsung LE32R51BD is dying now.
I dont know if its worth getting fixed or getting this one as its bigger and not a bad price.

We have white lines on our samsung going across the screen on all the DVD , DTV and video.

Also the menus just come up in blue with no text on.

Your not suppose to access it really, but I know you from the freeview area very technical so you will know what your doing

Since I got this one, I have needed to change anything.
But you can reposition the size of picture, example you think the logo is too far left etc.

Also the bit I like, there is a screen burn mode which if you switch on, the TV just goes through a rainbow of colours until you turn off. I assume this is for to remove screenburn images without paying an hefty sum.

Most of the vestle brands use this code, like the Acoustic Solutions, maybe also Wharfedale etc.
When I had the 32" last week, in the engineering menu it told me it was a Goodmans screen.

The freeview on it, is also a Vestle brand like the Goodmans GDB3 - but you can't have a screensaver on the radio stations.

Some features of the 42, I assume the 37 is the same.

PAP/PIP but not whilst on HDMI
Teletext and PAP
A few pre-defined picture settings.
3D Panaramic sound.
Has a bass setting on it
Has a seperate output for a subwoofer conection
Has a CI slot

Comes with a analogue UHF and VHF tuner, as well as DTT tuner but only UHF
There are loads

Most of the vestle brands
There are no brands called "vestle"...it's Vestel.
I'm not being pedantic here but it's important that brand names are spelled correctly because if someone was trying to search the forum for info on Vestel they wouldn't find any if they used "vestle" as the keyword search.

Get a smaller TV for the same price from a more reputable manufacturer. I have a Panny 50" so am used to a great picture. I bought an Acoustic Solutions set for the bedroom, and gave it to my grandad within 2 months as the picture and overall build was shocking. Bought a Samsung and haven't looked back.

You can break your tv if you mess anything up and I won't be held responsible.

Its Menu, 4 7 2 5

We just saw a techwood 42 in LCD TV in morrisons for £450 but cannot find any info about this on Google.

It looks OK though.

What options do / do not break the TV, and what do these things do?

I am interested in exploring this new menu on one of my sets but don't know what I should or should not touch now I've seen this warning.

As bobcar has already pointed out, you can get Pannys at great prices - TH42PX80 now £499 even at Dixons/Currys so not difficult to get.

Wonderful TV, little cash - no brainer!

Just use at your own risk, really.

The best option there is Burn mode turning on. LCD don't normally get effected from screenburn, but persumably this mode enables the screen to be repaired.

Depending upon the model you have and features allowed, you may be able to move the picture on the screen, like to the left or right or up or down, which may then cause you to loose some of the picture - hence the warning I gave.

They are many options to be used if your tv is broke and you send to get fixed. Do you remember the old CRT tvs which eventually the tube would switch on with just a white thin line and then you would normally get rid of them etc.

Just write the default values down and have a look at what they do - but just remember the warning I won't be held responsible if you do something and mess the tv up.

I haven't yet so far.
