My "misinformed" and "narrow minded" view (that's twice you've said that, by the way) comes from what I hear from day to day. If I'm not a fan I'm obviously not going to explore the genre further. I'm sure you're not going to go away and explore opera music if you don't like it (I don't, but just an example).
In the 90s I was a huge fan of R&B, actually, and still like a bit of it (TLC, Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill) but I can't stomach 99% of "urban" music I hear now. It's either some rapper trying to sound American or like they're from inner London, or some mindless beat with very average singing.
Of course R&B and Hip Hop often get lumped into one category because both genres are easily interchangeable. That's probably a good thing, too. On the indie scene loads of genres get lumped together. It's just an easy way to lump a type of sound to make it easier to refer to. Sometimes genres are even invented to keep the critics happy.
Anyway, back to the topic... N Dubz. Crap
Seriously, I actually think the likes of Girls Aloud are better than this group.
