He said that the show should be more about the contestants than the judges, but then went on to say that Cheryl should win this year because she's done a 'great job' and she should be 'rewarded' for this.

Bit contradictory to say that the show should be about the contestants, and then go on to say 'Cheryl' should win instead of 'Alexandra' should win, lol...

"X Factor Winner 2007 Leon Jackson" is a contradiction unto himself in the first place -

"X Factor" and "Winner" don't belong in the same sentence, paragraph, page or book as "Leon Jackson".

I'm still iffy about whether "2007" is accurate either!

Oh......nonsense! Leon was a FAB winner.... Love him. Love his voice.

I'm gonna stick up for the kid and say that I 'think' what he needed to make clear (cos I know he's said stuff in the past) is that he always complimented the girl category.....Laura and Diana. Dunno what he's said about Alex but he has said he thinks that is the best category.

I agree though...this does seem contradictory. No getting round it...but I think he could have made himself more clear.

Ooh ZipGypsy is about to hit 20,000 posts!

And yes he did a bit, but honestly it might just be a dig at Simon.

Yep - I spotted this yesterday but wasn't going to be the one to point it out.

Have to say I think they've over exaggerated the claim that
Leon launched an attack on the X factor . He only said what he's always said. They just wanted to use the headline 'The Stings of Leon'

I really dislike it when people say stuff like this.

I didn't really like Leon, was probably my least favourite finalist last year. But he won fair and square, good for him! Will people ever lay off the lad?

I have to agree with you there, RS. I bet some bright (?) spark came up with "The Stings of Leon" and they've been waiting all year to use it...

The press make up stories all time by sticking unrelated quotes together to give them a different meaning.
The quote that Cheryl' should win' may very well be an answer to a question such as ' Which judge do you think will win'.
They do this all the time, they have done it so many times to Rhydian..

I must admit, I was impressed with this title. Of course, now I am trying to think of any songs of Sting's that Leon could sing....LOL.

Difficult to tell with these so called "interviews" - given that the alleged quotes are usually out of context, chopped up and not connected to any questions that initiated them. They are also rarely interviews given to the publications that prints them either - usually Chinese whispers from paper to website to paper to paper. I've become cynical in my old age and tend to prefer not to judge anyone on a media snippet unless I see a complete interview - interviewer and interviewee.

Lets face it, Cheryl had the easiest job this year, all pre planned for her to win IMO (new girl does good etc).
I hope there may well be a fly in that ointment, JLS. Alexandra will do really well anyway and Eoghan can go finish his exams, sorted

Even if you read what's quoted - this is all he said

"It gets clouded these days when the judges are having their confrontations. It should be more about the acts."

It's hardly a bitter or scathing attack or 'blasting' X factor bosses

I think it's crazy to say this is a contradiction unless maybe English isn't your first language. It's perfectly acceptable to point out that there is too much attention given to the judges at the expense of the contestants but still give credit where it is due if Cheryl has the winning act. Had he said "the show shouldn't be about the judges at all" then this would have been a contradiction. Instead he was asking for more balance. The show should primarily be about the contestants with the judges playing their part.

Oh, absolutely - it just looks like a sentence that was sandwiched in the middle of other sentences and you don't know what the suestion was - add a "NASTY LEON VISCIOUSLY SAVAGES EMBATTLED SIMON COWELL!!" headline (for e.g.) and you've got a bit of controversy that always sells (or not!!)

But this is the case with most people in the public eye and the tabloid press. If we want to believe a story, we do, if we don't want to believe a story, we don't. We don't like it when such a quote is used to be negative about a person we like, but often on forums like this are happy to use them if we want to be negative ourselves. The fact that the "quotes" are most likely not accurate is not the issue. But it's all part and parcel of life on the internet!!

It annoyed me a bit because I caught the end of Loose Women today and it was brought up as though Leon had been very critical. And Sinitta said nothing to deny it, she just said something like Leon's 19 - he'll be fine.

He probably didn't even say it in the first place, at least not those exact words. It sounds like it's been cobbled together. Leon said right at the beginning of the live finals that he'd like one of Cheryl's girls to win. The newspapers love to twist people's words, to (apparently) make the stuff they print more 'sensational'

To be fair, there was always something lurking under that cheerful chappie persona that Leon had on the X Factor. I suspected that his true feelings would start to come out after the shock of having poor sales figures.
