Vocally, who is better than "average" Alexandra?
Thats one of the biggest things shes called at the minute when clearly shes not. Putting whether you like her or not aside, how its she average? Apart from Leona (where there is no comparison anyway but people still say it), just who have we had on X Factor (or similar shows) that make Alex look average?

Based on vocals, she should come out the winner on Saturday.

Laura, Diana, Ruth, Rachel, Brenda, Rhydian, Shayne, Rowetta.
Its no coincidence I don't think that without Brian Friedmans couple of dozen backing dancers and OTT Props she wasn't even in the running. Add in the loss of Diana's voice and suddenly we have a new favourite. I wouldn't say she was average, her voice isn't average, but imo her performances could be anyone doing what Brian tells them, nothing sparks, nothing stand out imo. I think she firstly needs to work on her personality, just an ounce of humilty never hurt anyone, then she needs to work on being a bit different, she's a bit samey (she may do fast and slow songs but imo the songs she's done weren't by a very versatile range of artists) and needs something distinctive. |

Alexandra's voice isn't average, her vocals are amazing.
It's down to personal choice though. She's certainly not average but I just can't warm to her at all. And vocal wise, I think Leona, Brenda, Ruth, Maria, Laura, Rhydian, Rowetta., even Tabby and probably some others were all on par with or better than her. But as I said, her voice is awesome. |

I'm purely on about vocal ability here. Take everything away from Diana, the dress sense, the hair, the hand etc and just concentrate JUST on the voice. How does she vocally exceed Alexandra?
Vocally, no, of course Diana's not as vocally strong as Alexandra, we've seen that. It's not just a singing competition though. It's the X Factor and having the best voice does not always mean you have the X Factor, IMO. |

I agree- but people say Alexandra is average yet clearly she isn't. Whether you like her or not, if you can't warm to her, find her boring etc you still cannot deny she is an excellent vocalist.

Laura?
Hahahahahaha. Nobody on this series came close to Alexandria vocally. Yet she's still only a bit above average. It says a lot for their selection process, really. If Rhydian had been in this year, he would have shamed them all. Again. But still lost because the punters are cretins. |

Honestly? On this year's Idol alone, Carly (by a mile), Syesha, Archuleta (and I didn't even like him). Then Melinda last year (and Phil Stacey too), Kat McPhee, Elliot, Paris Bennett, Fantasia, LoToya, J-Hud, possibly Clay Aiken, Tamyra Gray, and ***definitely*** Kelly Clarkson, who is about a bizillion times better than any other reality contestant.

Out of the power ballad brigade I thought Ruth was the best, she put so much into what she did, Alex is really good but there is a lack of charisma for me. I think she will do really well out of this and good luck to her. I prefer her to Leona, who sounds the same all the time and her diction is not good.

So you narrow the criteria to a point where you consider your view is indisputable and then ask people to disagree with you?
Odd. Alex is a pretty good technical vocalist, although her range is a bit limited. However, if that was all that was needed to become a star every backing singer in the country would be famous. Vocally, Alex lacks style and distinctiveness. |

I thought the poster meant who is better than her this year on X factor, not worldwide. Seeing some are comparing her with every singer on the planet.

as you say, Take away the performance, no backing dancers, no crazy props, Diana's voice alone on a CD would imo be much better than listening to Alex on CD singing a song just like the original, but needing more production and in a lower overall quality. For me the "Power" of a voice shouldn't be all a vocal is judged on, Diana has a simpler, nicer voice imo. |

Alex is a good singer but she dont half force her vocals, hence why she has a sore throat all the time ie for the majority of this competition.
her voice isnt as powerful as you think if it was she wouldnt be ill all the time, nice voice but she really isnt that GOOD. Also her vocals seem to sound damaged and she struggles with certain notes however she has a pleasant voice and i expect her album would be good, she sounded good on hero but she just blends in with any other singer. |
