I changed from contract to payg about 4 years ago and gave my 30 days notice, cancelled the direct debit, however Orange continued billing me for the defunct acct, each month I phoned to sort it out and each following month the bill came until after 6 months it was referred to a debt collection agency.
I have written twice to Orange, with copies of the letters, sent recorded delivery and still the collection agency are chasing me! I've given up and just hope it goes to court now because I can prove without shadow of a doubt that it's not a debt I owe!
To crown a sorry affair, I bought an Orange Tokyo phone last year that died after 6 months, ended up being in their repair centre for 10 weeks at which point I threatened to rant in their shop in Derby and they gave me a new one which has lo and behold died, 4 months on!
I ended up changing to O2 and buying an iphone.
You couldn't pay me to return to Orange after that!”
That was my experience exactly. It was as I was leaving Orange that they suddenly turned into Mr Hyde, and began pursuing me for money that I didn't owe.
Out of interest, did you ever ask for / receive a PAC so that you could take your new number with you? I asked for one, and, although they promised to "send it by post", it never arrived. Afterwards, that left me with the impression that they had purposefully avoided doing it. Maybe they've got a blame culture for call centre agents that take disconnection calls and who don't manage to talk the customer into staying, or something?; I don't know. If so, not putting through PAC requests would be one way that individual call centre agents could avoid personal flak. I only know that thereafter they tried to take money out of my account that they were not entitled to, and, despite multiple attempts by me to sort the resulting mess out amicably, and despite several verbal admissions of error on their part and promises to clear the amount that was not due on their system, they completely failed to do so.
Of all the companies I've tried, they're the only one I'll never use again.
