The Structure of the final
Mamaboogie

It has been so long since we had a three person final that I can't remember the structure of it!

What role do the judges play?

Who get's to do a showdance?

The Producers are probably making the rules up as we speak, or they may wing it like this week

Good question. I read an explanation on here yesterday but unfortunately cant remember which thread!

I think its judges vote on (not sure how many) dances then public votes - on the combined scores the 3rd placed dancer leaves (when this last happened I think Zoe/Ian then did their show dance). Then final two showdance and the rest is on public vote.

Do you mean the public vote twice in two sessions, first time choosing between 3, second time choosing between 2?

No, the public vote is frozen whilst the third place contestant is announced and does their show dance.

Then the lines reopen and people can vote for the final two, adding to their existing public vote total.

This is how I remember it too - I think Zoe and Ian did dance their showdance just for fun. Then Colin and Darren danced theirs which we the audience voted on - no judges vote on those.

Last time it was all three couples do both ballroom and latin (for which they pick their favourite past dance and generally make it a bit better). The judges mark them as usual and they get points from 3 to 1 as usual (assuming there isn't another tie fiasco!). The public then vote and after a break the votes are frozen and the couple with the lowest combined judges' vote and public score leave with the public vote taking precedence. The lines are then reopened (but not restarted). The third place couple do their showdance and then the remaining two couples do theirs. The judges comment but don't score and the winner is then whoever has the highest public vote in total. Hope that makes sense.

This is how it was in series 2 and 3. However - and I may have got this wrong - I noticed a slight change in the last DWTS which I could have sworn wasn't there before. Hopefully someone who paid more attention can clear this up...

Normally (on DWTS and SCD) the final 3 perform, the judges rank them, then the phone lines open. The person bottom of the combined total gets eliminated in 3rd place, the leaderboard then becomes redundant and the phone lines open again with all the votes rolling over. Whoever gets more votes out of the final 2 wins.

I'm pretty sure that on DWTS this fall, the final 3 performed, the judges ranked them and the phone lies opened. Then the lines closed and the 3rd place person was announced. There was a musical interlude and then the winner was announced.

The difference between the 2 is an important one, as unlike the first method the person with the most phone votes in the second method doesn't automatically win.
