I've had my iPhone 3G now for a good couple of months and I'm really enjoying it, however one feature I do really miss is the ability to know if a person has tried to call you, but didn't bother to leave a message if you were unreachable.

Now I'm not sure if this a network issue or a handset / configuration issue?

I just can't seem to find any literate on how to set up this feature on the iPhone?! By the sounds of it most networks had offered this facility on even the most basic of handsets & basic of contracts some time ago..

It was quite handy for when you were in poor signal areas, so you'd know if someone tried to call you but didn't leave a message.

Any tips?

I don't believe O2 support this feature unfortunately.

Nope unfortunately O2 don't support this feature on their network. Shame really as I'd like to have it.

Crikey,! I thought this was now standard on every network!
I had it on Orange like 4 or 5 years ago.

I always know who has called me if i miss them, only had three messages, yet i miss quite alot (can never hear phones for some reason :/)

It pops up that i had a missed call if it's locked and on the phone icon it'll have a number in red (relating to the number of missed calls) If you then go to recents the name or number will be in red or you can click missed to find out all the miss3ed calls you've had since you reseted it

This is obviously not via sms, but you can find out who without it (unless it's an unknown number of course :P)

I think you misunderstand.

This feature texts you if someone tried to ring but your phone was unavailable (no signal for instance). Call logs only work if your phone is reachable and voicemail only works if someone leaves a message.

I understand how voicemail works!!!!

I was pointing out that even if i miss a call and the dont leave a message i still know who called me. However didn't consider out of battery/signal etc notifications so I apologise for misunderstanding that.

On afterthought that would be handy, mind you i clearly have never been on a network that supported this so can't miss what you never had eh

Why on earth did they make this an either or option??

Every other network offer the text alert in addition to voicemail.
