Anyone else gave their phone to the Carphonewarehouse for a repair?

Hi

I just wondered if anyone else had gave their phone to the Carphonewarehouse to repair. The speaker at the top of my 3g iphone is broke and I took it to the Carphonewarehouse where I bought it and they sent it away.

I found out today that the Carphonewarehouse could not fix it and it had been sent to Apple. I was told it was likely they would replace the phone with a new one or a refurbishment.

I'm not that happy about it to be honest. I found out the speaker fault is common online and all that may have been required is for me to put my headphones in and out a couple of times to fix it.

Has anyone else had their phone replaced at the Carphonewarehouse? i've got visions of getting another faulty one if it's a refurb.

I know there are more important things to worry about but I just wondered if anyone else has been given a replacement and if it was new or a refurb like new.

Any replies would be appreciated.

If you get any problems with the phone when you get it back, contact Apple support and do your repairs direct with them, costs nothing and usually get a phone back within 48hrs.
If your not near an Apple store they send a collections bag via UPS, if your nice the guy will wait for you and take the phone there and then and 48hrs you should have a new / refurb or your fixed phone back. I've done this twice and very impressed with Apple, just bypass CPW.

The Wi-Fi packed in on my girlfriends iPhone so we returned it to Carphone warehouse for repair. Were told the phone would take 10-14 days max. We are now 4 weeks later and we still have no phone. To annoy us further, O2 tell us if we'd taken it to Apple they would have repaired it in 3 days or replaced it.

I was not advised this at Carphone Warehouse, we feel like we have been told a bunch of lies. We will never use carphone warehouse again, seem to be run by a bunch of muppets.
I'd rather these go out of business than Woolies. (after we got the phone back of course)

oh dear, this better not happen to me, God help them if it does. have u asked them to tell u the iphones current status? they can tell from the computer system, if they say no they can't they are lying.

Thanks for the responses, I know I should have sent it to apple direct like I've done with ipods in the past. I just wanted it fixed free and quick.

I dont want a new one incase it isn't really new and a refurb that had a fault. I think for the amount of money the contract costs, a refurb phone is not really acceptable. My iphone worked fine apart from the speaker, and from what i've seen online i could fix the prob myself in 30 seconds. You learn from your mistakes as the saying goes.
