From the Sun,

'PINT-sized hunk Dermot O’Leary is being lined up as the new star of Top Of The Pops. Big Brother’s Little Brother host Dermot, 30, is in talks to present the revamped BBC1 music show......

The relaunch is being spearheaded by new executive producer Andi Peters, who wants to bring in one main host.

A telly insider said: “At the moment we have a rota of people and Andi feels that confuses viewers.” ....'

Taken from here.

What'll confuse viewers even more is his inability to spit out his words in a coherent fashion when he speaks ten to the dozen. I've said this before and we've witnessed it for the past few years on Big Brother's Little Brother to an increasing extent each year, he needs to slow down his delivery if he keeps making so many mistakes.

It's all I could focus on when watching BBLB, the next sentence or link he was going to completely ruin but that's live television for you I suppose. I don't think TOTP is live so they'll be able to leave much of his mumbo-jumbo on the cutting room floor.

Thanks Eejay, I'd have thought Dermot was at least a quart-sized.

There was an earlier report that Margherita Taylor was to be the face of TOTP. That may be true, or may be an exaggeration for she's hosting (at least) the first live hour long programme. I have already expressed a little surprise elsewhere because she's good but over 21. It just seems inconsistent with the declared policy of aiming for a younger audience.

Dermot (30) is also over 21 but he makes more sense imo. This is the Sun, but even they are not saying it's fact, so it's definitely wait and see. They also say he could be the main presenter (but by implication not the only one). Maybe Margherita is the temp until Dermot or whoever is appointed, because I can't see the two together with the age policy.

I definitely stand by my earlier post to expect more appointments over the next few weeks. I think Kate's chances of getting a TOTP role will increase if Dermot is appointed, possibly as one of several younger rotating females. Criteria that have been suggested as necessary are an ability to swivel on one heel and to shout.

Just my thoughts. I know you'll be pleased Eejay.

P.S Achtung - Just read your post. TOTP is going live from November 28th. The slow-speaking Kate is obviously needed to slow Dermot down. or should that be to make him look slower?

Just saw Dermot O'Leary on Tonight With Jonathan Ross - he made no mention of TOTP but at the end of the interview said "I *love* doing live TV" - a hint as the revamped TOTP is live perhaps?

On the teen BB sex issue - he stood up to a dissaproving Ross and said "At 18 - they were ADULTS!" and added that no booze or contraceptions were supplied to 'goad' the teenagers into any sexual activity.

He admitted that BB4 was a flop as there were no characters "like Alex and Jade" before adding that, despite his other TV work, BBLB was his favourite show to work on.

He was squirming like a politician when Rossy asked him about Teen BB

God knows what would happen if Paxman or John Humphreys got to interview him !!

Are you suggesting that Ross used a soft touch with Dermot?

Well he could have asked him seventeen times whether ' that ' scene should have been broadcast

But we all know that Rossy has more than a little something of the ' light ' about him, so not too surprising that he didn't push the matter

Dermot didn't seem very happy to defend the decision

How odd.....Since the last episode of Fame Academy hasn't Jonathon Ross been an Endomol employee?

He did seem very uncomfortable didn't he? Towing the party line methinks.

Off on a tangent....

Davina and Jonathan Wilkes (i.e Robbie William's best pal) are to host a new saturday night show for ITV along the lines of Blind Date.

I've got no time for Endemol or C4 but I do think that Dermot's got a point. They were both adults, in there for only 10 days as opposed to the normal BB months, there was no booze or drugs to reduce inhibitions and there were no signs of any sizzling sexual attraction between them. I don't think it was unreasonable for Endemol/C4 to assume that, having done it, they wouldn't particularly object to its being broadcast.

But nobody has even addressed the big issue?
Did Jade finish.?

Hopefully you enjoyed last weeks Kate and Dougie show more than usual.
Back to the Kate and Iain show next week i thought I heard them say-unless the aeroplane is late or the snakebite has claimed another victim.

I would be very very surprised if Kate got that job Eejay. I don't think she stands a chance, her or Dermot. I can only see Margherita Taylor as being the one they will be interested in if they want to save the show. But I will join you in those prayers just incase.

i was watching VH1 very briefly over the weekend(do not ask it is a long story)

I was enjoying "Stomp" -by Steps surely one of the best get up and all dance together pop tunes of the 90's and a pretty interesting video story as well.

Then I glanced at the top of the TV and saw it said "Worst 40 Videos of all time" Just about sums up VH1 I guess.

And do you know the really funny thing ?

I noticed there is something called VHI Gold as well on the Channel listings!

Oh well .

I cannot see dermot on TOTPs - it just doesn't fit in with his career plan so far imo. He has chosen his TV vehicles carefully and all of them are very different, not mainstream

I wouldn't object though if he did - the more i can see dermot on tv the better but the idea of my beloved dermot teaming up with kate is just too horrible to contemplate..

As for the jonathan ross interview - i can see why rossy or wossy raised it but i don't see why dermot had to defend it - its not his decision to show it or not

And i agree wholeheartedly with darling - they were 18, they knew cameras were there, they knew they were on a TV programme and to be fair to jade and tommy neither seemed to have complained about being exploited - their attitude seems to be 'fair cop'

Looks like I slagged off VH1 Gold a little strong-I watched it for a few minutes today and there were a few interesting things on it.
I hoped I might see one oldie that is one of my favourites but did not-Bob Marley-redemption song.
It always looks like it was recorded in his lab in Kingston but one of my older friends says he is sure it was a studio in Holland-where I will be very soon.

I saw Andi Peters on Points Of View today and he said the revamped TOTP only has one presenter who will try and "get into the minds of the popstars".

Ok, a prize to anyone who can spot the contradiction in terms, the oxymoron or the mutually exclusive components of the above quote.

The TOTP picture shown on points of view showed margherita and a bloke as andi 's voice over said only one host instead of 2.....could mean its her or its not her depending on how the editor was thinking
.
Dermot is a presenter music isn't his thing. Margherita is too suitable for latenight with marge holland and I doubt if teens, tweenies, males or under twenty fives will want to watch her when the competition is Corrie or just watching Cat D at some other time or Fearn on Saturday.

I don't see the one presenter argument - you need regular presenters but the case for one is invisible - two is better than one on most grounds. Two gives opportunities for interaction and debate if you go for interviews. Few shows leave one person on their own for an entire show - Parkinson is about it. A younger person would appeal to more of the target audience but even Kate/Fearn would be likely to attract less viwers than 2 presenters. Kate/Fearn plus someone older would bring in all target groups which Margherita will put off, it would also add experience to the team without making it look too much like radio 2. . If you don't like one you may like the other.......If andi really wants someone older why doesn't he do it himself with someone younger - he looks younger than margherita or dermot and probably has as many or more fans?

Is Margherita significantly older than Kate? She is surely much younger than Andi Peters.

Just found this on Ananova.

Posh launches new look Top of the Pops

Victoria Beckham is to help launch BBC1's revamped Top of the Pops.

She will be appearing on a live show later this month on which the programme's new look will be unveiled.

It is not known whether Victoria - who is relaunching her pop career - will be performing or trying her hand at presenting.

A TOTP spokeswoman said: "Victoria will appear on the show and we will release further details nearer the time."

The long-running pop programme is being given a facelift under new boss Andi Peters, the former children's presenter.

A one-hour special will kick off the overhaul on November 28 at 7pm.

It will be broadcast live each week and will have a new set, logo and theme music.

A permanent presenter is expected to be announced shortly
