Ooh didn't know about the Bluetooth! Was misinformed!!

I too have a good phone as I have a Viewty so I really can't understand why I'm hankering after the iphone!!!

I take it you're not a morning person???

FYI I really wanted to be persuaded one way or another and seeing as a lot of people on this forum know much more about the iphone 3G than I do, I thought this would be a good place to start

get an iPod touch instead then you get the funtionality of a proper phone from your viewty and the music/video/internet functionality of the iPhone minus the phone features?

I wouldn't be without mine - I couldn't give two hoots what any iPhone-bashers say - I rather think it's trendy to knock it, nevermind only getting one to follow fashion. How bonkers is that!

Why don't you go into a Carphone Warhouse or somewhere and have a play with one. And have a look at the Apps store on Itunes - then you'll realise how fantastic this machine is.

My iPhone has all the phone functionality I need, I can make calls, I can receive calls. Suits me fine.

Why carry two devices around when you could have one and quite honestly if you had an iPod touch and a Viewty you'd spend you time thinking 'I wish my iPod touch could make calls too then I could ditch the viewty'. A few minutes with the interface and capacitive touch screen on the touch and you'd be smitten.

In the bigger picture the three things everyone anti-iPhone complains about (no mms, no bluetooth transfer, no camera) are really a small price to pay for everything you gain.

The biggest problem I have with the iPhone is the absence of a radio. I used to have a separate portable radio but now I'm so used to using my phone that I don't think I could go back to that.

Its good phone BUT it is way too expensive for what it is.

Some annoyances:
- Can't change themes
- Can't transfer Word documents
- Can't turn off Automatic Word change in SMS
- Battery Life

Good Stuff:
- Touch interface
- Safari Browser
- Hot swap sim
- Can be hacked easily

There are some more which I can't remember right now.

You can theme with winterboard if you jailbreak. Not official but it makes it a non issue for me. Google image search for winterboard

Airsharing will let you transfer/read apps http://www.avatron.com/products/

IIRC the 2.2 firmware allows you to turn auto-correct off.

Battery life could be better but for the type of device (3G, large touch screen) it's not actually as bad as a lot of people try and tell you.

I too am also thinking of getting an IPhone 3G this month, worth getting one now or holding off to a new model? (if there is one?)

Perhaps not radio radio, but there are a number of apps for internet radio stations available where you have thousands of stations for any particular genre you want. Plus the iPlayer for Radio works on Wifi.

I can touch type pretty fast (50 wpm) using both thumbs. But then some people struggle with the iPhone keyboard. So I guess it depends....
