I have only watched from season 2 and I can only remember once, that the best dancer IMO didn't win. Thought Colin was robbed . But that that was due to the stupid showdance

If we are talking about just dancing zoe, colin and Emma were superior to the people that won in their series. But strictly winner is based on so much more.
Agree Zoe was robbed, and there is also a case to be made for Colin. Was Emma better than Mark? Not so sure.

I would have said Louisa was better than Emma and Mark. Zoe and/or Colin were robbed.
If we go on judges average scores then in their opinion the best dancer in the final has won it 4 times out of 5 (Darren Gough being the exception), and the best dancer of the series has won it 3 times out of 5 (Zoe and Emma having been denied in these instances).
In addition I also have a feeling that if the public hadn't knocked out Claire Sweeney she may well have gone on to have the highest average score of series 1.

They have in most cases for me, the exception being Darren in SCD 2004 (but I didn't think that Colin & Zoe were flawless either; Colin was a great technician, but a not so great performer, and I never understood fuss about Zoe [latin was nowhere near as good as her ballroom]).
I thought Louisa was better than Mark in some respects (better all-rounder etc.), but both of them were better than Emma for me (who was another Zoe for me in many ways; I loathed her Paso... as anyone who can be bothered to look up my posts from that series can see... I was livid... I decided never to take SCD so seriously again after that... ain't good the 'elf and wellbeing...)

I remember thinking that Claire Sweeney was definitely the best dancer - but then again she probably could be called a dancer given her stage and cruise ship background (she played Roxie in Chicago before doing SCD). However, possibly no ballroom training. I remember thinking how gracious she was when she was knocked out, acknowledging the validity of the public vote.
I think that Louisa and Vincent were robbed, and Rachel and Vincent should win, being the best dancers this year.
However, Len is super-critical of Vincent, so I guess that the best dancer to not win this year will be Rachel

Only series 3 didn't produce the right result for me, though series 4 had a number of great dancers, all of whom had strengths and weaknesses, but a fair enough winner.

ETA: I am stupid....I meant Matt Dawson not the dude from Eastenders.........
Personally, I think Alesha deserved it last year as she was consistent throughout the whole series, whereas Matt had some dodgy dances, and I also think she just outdanced Matt in the final (I preferred her show dance).

I totally agree with this comment. I still find it hard to believe that Colin didn't win!
I doubt you'll get many people thinking Matt was robbed. Alesha and even Gethin were both much much more popular.
To be honest even thought my favourite hasnt always won i do think everyone thats won has been worthy. I was guted Louisa never made the final though shes the only one i've ever felt was "robbed" although mark was a very worthy winner that year.

I don't really think it follows that he was significantly less popular than Alesha and Gethin. Not everyone on this forum likes him but that's not representative of the whole audience, and I know loads of non-forumites who voted for him (not that that's representative either lol).
Many Matt fans (myself included) don't feel he was robbed as Alesha deserved it for consistency and generally being fabby.
I don't think any of the winners have been unworthy of the title, even when I felt there were better dancers that series.
