Switch off or standby ?

With all your expertise and knowledge i was wondering what is best for a tv

Switch off when not watching or put it on standby as i have heard people speak up on both sides ?

I ask this because i had to have a new switch put on one of my Sony tv's because apparently the cause was switching off every night !!

Switch off overnight and other extended periods, standby for short periods only.

Some models of Sony TV are prone to on / off switch failure, I doubt it was you.
