I would hand it in to your local police station, as I'm sure they'll be able to trace the owner.

On some versions of the firmware, I think you could get at the contacts via the emergency call option - might be worth a look at seeing if you can do this?

They wont be able to give you any information though or it would be a breach of DPA.

Well I wasn't expecting them to give out the owners address and phone number. They will be able to tell the OP what to do, no doubt it's been reported missing/stolen.

I once found a phone when doing a paper round as a young teenager, cracked and broken by the side of the road. I turned it on to see if there was a "home" number to contact and within minutes had had an abusive call accusing me of nicking it. If I saw a phone like that again I'd just walk past.

I highly doubt he or she wants to give to the police or trace the owners. Its a £500 phone and the only thought running in his/her head is "how do I make this work".

I just hope the owner had insurance!

I would give it to police.
Would be blocked now by network if reported lost/stolen so only use is a paperweight.
