You basically need something called an 'enhanced' SCART - this will give you much sharper pictures than the standard SCART Sony supply you with the PS2 with the red, white and yellow connectors. As the standard connector does stereo however, soundwise your not really going to get much better from your TV - the other option is to get an amp and plug an optical lead into the back of the PS2 - this will give surround sound.
There are two options with enhanced SCARTS - S-Video and RGB compatable - RGB is generally considered to give a slightly better picture on most sets over S-Video, The big downer I've found with the PS2 however is that because of some daft DVD copy protection feature Sony seem to have built into the PlayStation 2, if you have one of these enchanced SCARTs in the enhanced mode your DVD's turn into a very vile shade of green, and hence a lot of enhanced leads have a switch on the bit that plugs into the multi AV socket on the back of the PS2 with switches from enhanced to 'DVD' mode... |
