I'm still puzzled about my green screen.
I've had my Humax since before Christmas and selecting the HDMI input on my Sony always worked ok until about a week ago.
Now I only get the green screen.
I am not aware of having made any changes.
Any ideas.

What model is the Sony TV?, if it's fairly old it may require the software updating?.

Failing that have you tried unplugging BOTH from the mains?.

Thanks Nigel - you're suggestion worried me because my set is a Sony Bravia bought in England - HD ready - about 2/3 years old.
For over a month it has worked perfectly well and bearing in mind I've brought it over to France, it's, perhaps, unlikely to get a software update.
But no, I've not turned the whole lot off yet and done a restart.
I should have done that, I must admit.

If it includes the HD Ready logo then it 'should' be OK, as one of the things the logo covers is HDCP - however, as nothing was using HDCP back then, many sets required updates to make it work properly when HDCP actually appeared.


It's not a Freeview update, so it's not done over the air anyway, it requires an engineer.

Unplugging it may well reset everything and all will be fine again.

Just to add my HDMI experience to the thread.

I originally had a foxsat HD connected to my panasonic plasma via a vp50pro scaler.

The Foxsat when switched on from standy would ALWAYS give a picture, but frequently if you manually changed resolution using the v-format button the scaler would mute giving a blue screen. Not a green screen which would indicate HDCP problem.

I have had a good conversation with Humax about it and they said the Foxsat HD is fully HDMI compliant and passes the comlpiance testing.

OK, it could be the video scaler and I fully accept that possibility.

Now I buy a Foxsat HDR. It suffers exactly the same problem when changing resolutions, no surprise there, BUT also about 60% of the time when turning on from standby I get no picture as many others have described. Again not green screen HDCP but blue vp50 muted as if it has no input signal.

Again I accept it could be the video scaler at fault BUT the Humax products are the only ones that seem to have a problem with it.....and I have plugged a lot of other devices into it.

Also it is quite clear that the Foxsat HD and HDR behave differently in regards to their HDMI handshake.

By the way I have contacted Humax about this.

My conclusion? Well OK it's apparent that a lot of TVs aren't properly HDMI compliant BUT I do think there is an issue with the HDR.

I had the green screen problem last night for the first time on my 2 year old Sharp LCD. Just flicking through the channels, got to BBCHD and the picture went all wobbly then turned green. Only way to restore normality was to reboot the box.

Is this the same issue described on this thread? Never had any problem with HD DVD or Bluray on this telly.

I've got a FoxSat HDR connected via HDMI to a Sony Bravia LCD TV (approx 2 years old).
As with many other users it worked fine initially, now it's permanently green screen when on the HDMI input.

Tried powering everything off, turning back on in different orders, flicking through inputs - as soon as HDMI is selected regardless of channel on the Humax I get green screen.

I've searched around the net for a software upgrade for the TV but can't find anything.
I also contacted Sony who "could not diagnose the fault by email" and asked me to contact my local Sony service centre. Problem is they will probably charge for an engineer visit - I'd really like to at least flash up the firmware myself first. Has anyone managed to find/do this?

Has anybody anymore information about this issue.
As I said before, my Humax worked perfectly on HD with my TV for a couple of months, now I only get the green screen when selecting the HDMI input.
I have tried all the suggestions given with no success.

Yes, me to on the very first day I had the HDR. I rang Humax, who told me this is an indication that The HDMI handshake was not completed It was an HDCP issue, I restarted as you and Humax suggest problem solved. Problem occurs from time to time and is cured by restarting.

My LG TV is connected via a single HDMI cable to the HDMI out from my Sony amp.
The amplifier takes four HDMI inputs; my MediaPC, a Philips DVD player, Panasonic Blu-ray, and the HDR.

Occasionally, when switching the amp to the HDR, or when switching the HDR on, I get a green screen.

When this happens, one of the following 3 actions occurs:-
[LIST][*]The green screen corrects itself with no action required[*]I change channels on the HDR and it fixes itself[*]I have to switch the amp to a different input and then back to the HDR to sort it[/LIST]
I don't see the green screen with any of the other three HDMI devices.

This isn't a big deal for me with the setup I am using, but I think it adds weight to the argument that the HDR is not blameless with regard to the HDCP handshaking issue.

The fact that this issue has been reported with various TV makes rather than any one in particular also supports this theory.

It seems to me that Humax could fix this problem in firmware by having the HDR keep repeating its HDCP handshaking attempt when it fails.

I wonder if the OP ever sorted his 'green screen' or if he took it back.... Seven months is a long time

The issue seems to affect some TV's when the HDR is first taken from standby whilst it is recoding, from the threads on this and others it effects multiple TV's.

I personally feal its a issue with the HDR coming out of Standby whilst recording and not sending the full handshaking to the TV or inablilty to sense response back from TV.

Lets hope that Humux have this sorted in the forthcoming update..... Its is a pain.

Run the HDR via HDMI direct to the tv, attach an optical cable from the HDR to the amp. Humax don't mention this anywhere but you can do it and its the ideal set up.

That's what I've done with mine and it saves a fortune on electricity as well as you don't need to run your amp for every tv programme only those with digital sound or for which you want surround.

Agreed it's a pain, but FWIW I've found something that works for me.

When (in my case) black screen appears
Press source; press TV, and when dialogue box comes up switch to another HDMI input. When ( in my case) another black screen appears, press source, and revert to HDMI input connected to HDR. Screen now has picture. If functions do not work, press PVR.

Mine is a simple set up
HDR > TV ( Panasonic 32LXD85) via HDMI
HDR > DVDR via SCART
Analogue loop-through: aerial>DVDR>TV.

Well, I've had another good 'play around' with my HDR this morning and I still get the green screen whenever switching to the HDMI input.
I've done a factory reset and not loaded the non-freesat channels.
I've tried a couple of power downs on both the box and the TV.
The TV is a Sony KDL S32A 12U.
It was working ok up until around February.
A few weeks ago, I even tried a different HDMI lead - all this with no change.
Any other ideas anyone?

Firstly I am not a TECHIE. I am just applying logic and things picked up on the forum.

I cannot see the fact that you have not loaded the non-freesat channels making any difference. Trying a different HDMI lead would appear to have eliminated that.

When I first plugged in my Foxsat PVR I had a green screen. I rang Humax who said it was a handshaking issue and to keep connecting and reconnecting. At the fifth try it worked. That was trying in different connection orders.

Now if I get a green screen, switching the box and Tv on in a different order seems to clear the problem. Giving the system a little time often cures the problem. Or switching the Box on first usually works for me.

What I cannot work out is why the problem suddenly cropped up for you. Did you change anything? Have a power cut? Its very odd.

As far as not loading the non-freesat channels, well, I thought I'd read somewhere that some odd things happen and I've got to clutching at any straw that comes by.
As far as February is concerned, I'm not exactly sure what happened - maybe it was a software update?

I bought a Foxsat-HDR for my Dad a few weeks ago to work with his Sony KDF-E50A12U rear projection HDTV, and it was working fine until last weekend. Then suddenly, for no apparent reason, all my Dad could see was a green screen.

I can see the OSD markers, so it's not a problem with the projector itself. Additionally, if I change the video resolution using the Humax remote v-format button, the resolution change is recognised by the TV. But still the blank green screen.

I have changed the HDMI cable to no avail. The connection is directly from the PVR to the TV. I have added a SCART conection which works fine, although defeating the object of HD. I have tried cold- and warm- booting in various orders to no avail.

I spoke to Humax and they said it must be the TV, that they have had a number of issues with TV's that required firmware updates. My Dad's TV is active on Freeview so I would imagine would have the latest Freeview firmware at least.

Sony said that they weren't aware of any problem on the TV (which is 3-4 years old) that would be cured by a firmware update. They suggest I contact a local approved service engineering company for help. I'm reticent to do that because it will cost and I'm not so sure how likely they are to know what they're doing (from previous experience).

So I'm stuck in the middle. I can't understand what can have changed, and yet my symptoms match so many others peoples' symptoms so it does not seem to be a hardware fault as such.

I'd love 10 minutes in a soundproof room with whoever is responsible for the HDMI/HDCP standards!

Any suggestions?

Pessabelm have you tries anything mentioned ealrier in this thread? may be the brainy people on here (not me) would be interested to know what was ging on when the green screens happened. Also suggest you look in on the Hummy forum.

I've had my HDR for a month now, I've found when I'm getting a green or 'grey' screen (has happened twice now), there are two choices, either turn the tv off and back on again, fixes the problem, or hit the v-format button on the HDR and cycle through the display formats, it always restores the picture.

I'm not aware of problems on that Sony model either, but quite a lot of people here have had problems with the Humax.

The crucial point here is the guarantee, the Sony is long out of it, and the Humax is still under it - take it back to where you bought it from, and get them to sort it out.

After I wrote the message earlier I decided to have another rant at Humax. However, I got through to a very reasonable chap who said that it sounded like a hardware fault to him because the problem wasn't there from the start. He said that Humax could swap it out directly but it would be a graded replacement.

I bought it from Amazon and so I've tried to get a replacement from them but since they're out of stock I'll get a refund instead. I thought I might have trouble because it's just over a month old, but it seems not.

At the moment, I'm not sure I'll replace it. My Dad struggled a bit with the interface compared with SkyHD, and he really wanted it as a Summer/closed-season only subscription-free alternative to Sky. The football season is almost upon us...

I use source>TV and then toggle to another HDMI option, then back again. Finally, if volume or program will not change, I press PVR.

The latest info on my Green Screen issue.
I've e-mailed Sony who just told me that I must ensure that my satellite receiver must be set to 1080i and not 1080p as my set 'does not accept this signal'.

Since receiving that e-mail a couple of weeks ago, and after reading more posts on this and the Humax forum I've been 'playing around' with the setup.
For those of you who go back through these posts, my set up was working until sometime in February.
Now, the situation is as follows:-
When I switch on to, for example, BBC1 and select the HDMI on the Sony - no problems. I can select all the different settings on the Humax 576i, 576p etc with no problems.
But, as soon as I select the BBC HD channel I get pictures and sound for about 10 seconds and the the dreaded green screen. Nothing I do after that resolves anything. The only way to get back pictures is to go back to the scart connection.
I can't get rid of the green screen on the HDMI input until after restarting the TV and the Humax.

Any other ideas anyone?

I've just joined the forum because I googled the Green screen and this forum came up. I connected my new Humax FoxSat PVR to my 3 year old Sony Bravia HD ready TV using just the HDMI cable and it worked brilliantly for 2 weeks. Then suddenly, for no apparent reason, I could only get the Green Screen you have been discussing. The system still works OK with scart cable. I've powered on and off, connected and re-connected but no change. Green screen everytime I connect the HDMI cable. Having read the above posts, I'm not sure if there is a consensus of opinion as to whether the Fox sat or the Sony is to blame. Has anyone replaced their Humax Foxsat yet with a new one - and has it cured the problem? Or do I need to get my TV assessed by an engineer? (which could cost a bit!)
