This is expected info, really. I have to say that in my opinion, as shared with many many others, Rachel Hylton was the best singer. Her powerhouse performances would be excellent on a musical stage where projection is everything, when she learns to tame that magnificent voice (I believe Cowell called her a FERRARI) her recording/live voice will be exceptional. Im not a huge fan of 'trilling', I believe a singer is as good as the notes they hold, which Rachel does well. I do hope Rachel becomes the phenomenon she deserves to be.
Im not interested in negativity about Rachel, I know of her past and she is over that. I am shocked and abhorred to see some of the strange comments about her on this site. When Rachel took that route, she was 13 years old, and if you see her as that 13 year old, she cannot be held accountable. So I dont either. End of.
Merry Christmas one and all.

She is fantastic and deserves to be great...I cannot begin to imagine what type of album she will be coming out with but I know it's gonna be real music. Part of me wishes Alex was going to sign with him too...he is all about the type of music Alex wants to make and I think he would spend alot of time with his artists teaching them about songwritting and vocal training.

Well i was never a fan of rachel on the show, but i loved her version of amzing grace at boot camp.

The girl obviously has talent and if she gets a record deal good luck to her, i think it would be interesting to see what she would come up with.

she definitely has the right person behind her. Legend is a legend.

I know for a fact the sound from the XF that comes across on tv is very different from the live studio having been to one of the shows this year and I was stunned by the difference and how much better all of the contestants sounded in the studio.”

Off-key is off-key, regardless of whether it was the TV mix or in the studio. Rachel showed promise in the early stages, but demonstrated a fatal inability to sing consistently in-tune in the live shows. She needs a lot of vocal coaching to progress any further.

I only recall one major episode of "off key" this was during Against All Odds where she was trying her best not to cry because of all the abuse that she suffered from the press etc etc. She had to sing songs that were not written for her vocal technique. Listen to Amazing Grace etc. these are the types of song that she should be singing. If John Legend has recognised the potential in Rachel then I for one am very happy about this!!! I wish there would be some more news on this!!!!

I have heard nothing about it. I don't even no were the source is from. You would think the media would have heard about it.

Only in X Factor world where the Daily Mail pries into every aspect of your private life and determines whether you are a good person or a bad person, and they deemed Rachel a "bad person", so despite being one of the best singers, bad publicity meant she didn't stand a chance. She would probably get on better with John Legend and would be able to relate to him without her having to mind her Ps and Qs. I think it's great that British black singers are getting recognised by top American acts/producers because they never get a chance in this country from our out of touch record bosses.

How else could she showcase it. She should have a record contract in this country, but realised the only way people would hear her voice is via the X Factor ... and it worked!

If you are good enough you can do it without the X Factor.
Estelle, Jamela, Alesha Dixon, Duffy and winehouse have proved that.

Getting a deal is hard. A lot of the time it's a lot about image and connections rather than talent. Also there has to be a market for the kind of music you want to sing. This country is more concerned with RnB, Pop music, Indie and classical music. For someone like Rachel it would have been hard.

That's where I first saw Estelle, when I went to see John Legend at the Shepherd's Bush Empire, and I remember thinking "Wow, she is brilliant and really versatile, she will go far" only to hear she lost her record deal. I thought how typical of this country - so many black singers have not got the support or recognition they deserved in this country, so John Legend must have realised what a talent she was. The whole of the record industry in this country needs a huge shake up because they don't realise what is popular anymore. Alex sold 576,000 singles this week, to Jeff Buckley's 81,000 - she outsold the entire top 20. This is what Britain wants now!

You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Estelle lost her record contract in this country because the record producers "didn't know what to do with her", so John Legend produced her album in the States. Alesha's group Misstique(sic) also were dropped, as was Jamelia. Duffy doesn't have any problems because she's not black.

Why are you bringing race in to it? What are you saying that the Uk music industry is racist. How do you explain Dizzy Rascal, Sugar Babes, Craig David, Seal, Booty luv etc.
If you are a good enough singer, performer you will make it in the music business.
