How does EPG work?
iamian

I've been here before on here but with a few things worth recording over Crimble I wondered if anyone can explain my EPG problem.

On BBC1 / BBC2 / ITV1 / C4 there is no EPG for the present day, it starts with the first programme wholly within tomorrow then continues for another 13 days. I have today's EPG for all the other channels I ever want to watch. I also don't get any programme information on now and next with these 4 channels.

So, if I on a morning I wish to set the PVR to record a programme that evening I cannot, but if I want to record something tomorrow evening that's fine.

The fault rolls forward each day, most days, but then occasionally all will be fine for a day or two.

Signal strength seems good and I get an EPG and Now and Next on the DTV tuner.

Is this a signal strength issue?
Does the 14-day EPG come from a different source to the daily EPG update?
FYI I'm tuned into Saddlewoth (Wharmton) which relays Winter Hill.
Does the daily EPG update overwrite the 14 day EPG?

Unfortunately I've not other aerial on the same transmitter to try out any other option. If it works on another transmitter then I wouldn't know if its signal strength or the data.

This is a very good account of how scan for channels, and reinitializing TUTV software, works:

sounds a bit like a transmiiter thing because epg errors were reported with the 'nit' probs

think there are two components, the TUTV 8 day epg software, which allows 14 day epg to be obtained next time at 11.30am to 12.00, both from whatever MUX carries channel 5

could be worth seaching for 'Winter Hill' on the forums because it may have had more probs than most

sounds right

any signs of poor signal, especially on ch5?

If not done recently you could try channel scan to see if you get 6 frequencies and the usual number of channels, or if it helps in due course, and see the other recent thread about epg. and if no go then:

Thanks for the reply. I will into Winter Hill and the Kafkasword site.

I have tried doing a fresh search but to no avail.

When you say Ch5, do you mean Ch5 digital or Ch5 analogue?

We have line-of-sight to Saddleworth, about 0.8km away but it has no Ch5 analogue signal. Ch5 on digital (UHF Ch 44) has 8/9 signal strength.

We can't get five analogue either. 8/9 could hardly be better but we had to get the aerial boosted to receive a good enough digital signal for five. When all else fails maybe restore factory defaults as a shotgun treatrment?
