And I didn't react becuse I am "over-eager and defensive", I reacted because I think nasty threads are unfair to the people they're about.

Fair enough.

You think I started this thread just to be nasty, truth is I didn't. I wanted to put my finger on what it was about her that I didn't/don't warm to. That is a fact. A lot of people have similarly misinterpreted my reason, thus causing me to say they are over-eager and defensive.

Lisa has totally won me over in this series through her dancing and dancing alone. For me, she is the most improved and her and Brendan bring a certain chemistry to the floor the other 2 finalists do not.
It is Rachel who leaves me cold. I find her dancing lacks any real soul. She is technically good but there is no wow factor there.
Lisa's recent dances – her AT, her quickstep, her foxtrot, her cha, cha even, have had that something extra. I put this down to the bond she has created with Brendan going through all those dance-offs.
I have huge admiration for Lisa's fighting spirit and she keeps improving. Last night's training footage showed her cha, cha technique is even better now.
Tom has remained the same standard and not really progressed in my view. I also think Brendan and Lisa's show dance will steal the night because Brendan creates better routines than Camilla or Vincent, and him and Lisa just have more oomph as a couple.
Surely others sees this too...?

Yes, her dancing has improved and you are entltled to your opinion. No, I really don't agree with you please see my previous posts on this thread.

Yes I too am expecting Lisa and Brendan's showdance to be 'something else' though not exactly perhaps in the way you mean

Good luck to them all though - it's gonna be a fun night.

What is it about Lisa...?

Easy!

Brendan!

He seems to be more polarising than anyone as regards public opinion. He puts himself out there more than any other pro and it's clear that a proportion of the public don't like what they see. I think he's chosen the wrong time to revert back to 'hissy girlie fit' Brendan.

It's a shame really that Lisa wasn't paired with Matt.

I must admit you're probably right, Claire.

However, they do make a good team - they were lovely on ITT yesterday and I was practically in tears myself at the end of their slot!!!

As for the OP - I have to ask - how on earth is anyone here going to be able to tell you why you feel the way you feel when you don't even know yourself? We don't even know you!

All we can do is say how WE ourselves feel about someone, and that relates to us individuallly and our own subjectivity.

As for traits that make them 'human' - um .. of course they're human! Just because they appear on TV doesn't mean they don't have the same kinds of problems and emotions we all experience. Theirs are in the glare of publicity, whereas ours are private - and rightly so (and that's actually a negative for most of them. We're luckier in that respect).

I personally like all the celebs - after all, we don't know them and can't possibly form real opinions on them just seeing them on TV. We've never been involved in their lives, have no insight into the real character traits or emotions etc and why there should be any need at all to judge someone badly with so little to go on has always completely baffled me.

I suspect that, to some extent, we might tend to project negative qualities that may exist in our own psyche onto those on TV whom we profess to dislike (without having ever met them or gotten to know them).

Or then again - maybe not! I admit, there are those in the public eye to whom I have never been able to take (not on SCD or any other 'reality' show, however). No particular reason - but I take full responsibility for the fact that it's obviously a failing of my own and not anything to do with them.

....yes yes I'm negative etc etc, nasty and jugemental.

I haven't judged Lisa AT ALL. I simply said there was something about her I didn't like. I cannot help that, it is not a conscious choice, it is a feeling.

You're right you don't know me, yet other peopel have managed to identify what it is I am talking about so therefore my question is not futile.

Don't worry Starla - this is a dancing competition, AND a popularity contest. I personally concentrate a bit more on the dancing, but I, like most, are also influenced by who I like.

The celebs are not forced to appear on SCD, they put themselves out there to impress the judges and audience with their dancing AND their personalities. We don't just see them dancing, do we? They have many opportunities to engage and impress us (ITT).

Thus we are actually engaged in judging BOTH and do this actively by voting for our 'favourites'.

Trying to understand the dancing and the personalites (even if it's just the bits we are allowed to see - we don't really know them) is laudable.

Whilst I find negative, unsubstantiated comments about the personalities on show, boring and sometimes distasteful, interesting, thoughtful posts have changed my mind about things. Sometimes funny ones have been really illuminating.

There is a place for all this.

Yeah I know what you're saying. I resent the fact that I cannot see past my issue with Lisa and cannot enjoy her dancing. It's unconscious though, I cannot help it.

I am although choosing not to let the fact that I think Tom is gorgeous influence me, if I was to, I'd want him to win but that's hardly a good reason for voting for someone. So I want Rachel to win and I don't have any opinion whatsoever on her personality I just think she is a fantastic dancer and moves me when I watch her dance.

Maybe if I could see past whatever it is about Lisa I don't like I could appreciate her dancing as well. I feel quite guilty and unjust that I can't do it.

I find it astonishing that people have said she seems 'cocky' or 'over-confident'. I'd have said the exact opposite.

Maybe it comes down to seeing what you want to see. I'm sure there are people who wanted to dislike her (good-looking, successful, dated Clooney, don't you just hate her?) and have found her wanting as a result.

Goodness, girl - don't tie yourself in knots. If Tom does a lovely pair of dances that you think are great and you really like him - vote for him.

Vote for him anyway if you want to. He seems a charming and likeable chap to me.

If you honestly don't like Lisa's dancing - don't vote for her - simple.

To be honest I don't like Lisa's dancing much either - though she's pretty good.

I shall be voting for R&V and I haven't seen the show yet! This is because their dancing so far has moved and thrilled me.

We all vote for a mixture of reasons and at the end of the day - its not that serious.

I think that's true but i realised the other day, i liked Lisa early on and felt sorry for her being partnered with Brendan but lately it seems sometimes like his arrogance has rubbed off on her sometimes and at other times she tries so hard to offset his sulking by being overly smiley and humble that it can't help come across as desperate and false. It's not really her fault, she's tried to overcome the disadvantage of being partenered with one of the least popular pros but i think it's actually made things worse.

and the journey stuff hasn't really helped. She was always pretty good, she's just better now. All three of them are. Unless you can show a Darren Gough type journey i don't think you should go near the word really as it just puts people off. Improving a bit after spending 3 months immersed in ballroom and latin dancing isn't a journey, it's what you would expect.

Funnily enough, it's Vincent's choreography that has stood out for me this year.

His rather unique Quickstep-based American Smooth, his original take on the Tango and his brilliant choice of music for the AT have been the highlights of the series for me.

It might be she seems slightly fake or well that's as far as I get cos I just don't know why, or can't put the feeling into words.

Anyone else know what I mean and can give me the words?!”

It is not her dancing.
Lisa antagonises people because she tells them there are 12 inches in one foot.

Well I've got so much stick on this thread, I'm a bit wary of just stating something without justifying it now!

I do like R & V more though. I'm not a fan of Camilla and I don't think she's a strong choreographer and think if Tom had been paired with someone else, I might be voting for him.

Oh dear Starla, bet you wish you hadn't started this thread now I agree with you - I don't like her but not quite sure why that is. She's a bit too full of herself for my liking.

Ignore the bitchy comments you have been receiving - some people cannot bear their favourite to get any negativity - it was a perfectly reasonable thread title and I don't believe that everyone who posts a new thread checks through the old ones first

initially, I didn't like Lisa at all, there was just something about her that i couldn't put my finger on, that i disliked about her. but having said that, as the weeks have gone on, she's actually grown on me (especially the way she kinda 'handles' Brendan and his little outbursts).

Thanks! I do wish I hadn't now but glad there's some reasonable people on here as well so I 70% am glad I did now instead of 20%.

Me too. I don't like middle-aged women [of which I am one] behaving all coy and girly like 18 year olds. It's cloying on a teenager, it's positively vomit-inducing on a grown woman. I agree she is tall, can look elegant and I don't really care that she dated Clooney, he's not my type anyway; I just don't like her for the simpering, the hand-on-heart 'oh thank you, Len' and general ickyness.

It depends on life-expectancy. 37 x 2 = 74 which would be middle aged if the person died at 74 but since we don't kniow what age peopel are going to die at...it's kind of guess work.

I think!
