1st time HD'er
Around this time last year I was looking to buy my 1st HD tv but it didn't happen. Anyways I have just got a £1000 bonus from work and will definitely be buying one this year.
At present it will be mainly used with SD tv, and xbox/wii and some downloaded hd content. I am looking to go full hd and may buy a blueray player aswell if not now within the next year. Has much changed in a year, are prices likely to go up or down after xmas? Not sure what to get, viewing distances between 8 and 15 feet depending on where you sit in our living room. I don't want a huge tv, have been looking at 32's and 37's mainly. Of what I have seen panasonic plasmas look good but I am not sure which would be best. I am looking for a smooth non jerky picture, no ghosting. One of the most irriitating things I have seen is jerky panning movement, and ghosting. I also sont want massive pixelation on sd tv. My father in law has a 42" sony bravia of some sort but I notice that there is slight ghosting on that, if something moves fast I can still see its outline in the original position a split second later which I dont like, apart from that its cracking. I am looking to spend around the £600 - £700 mark. So I've been thinking about TX32LZD85, TX32LZD81 or maybe a samsung like LE37A656A1F. Any suggestions? |

You've seen the best, but are now considering the rest ![]() For SD the PX80s are generally considered one of the best, and perfectly capable for HD too All the benifits of plasma, no judder, no blur, v,good black levels They do it in 37" too @ 15ft 37" pixelation won't be an issue IMO I have the 42" version and you could sit as close a 5/6 ft and pixelation wouldn't be an issue edit: ah now see you want to go full hd - but full HD on a 37" @ 15ft usually = No benifit |

At those TV sizes and viewing distances you definitely don't need full HD. If you like the Panny plasmas the 37PX80 would be good and well within your budget.

Thanks for the responses, so you reckon a TH37PX80B will be good enough. No panning Judder, excellent picture when I do eventually connect a blue ray, decent for xbox 360 and a decent sd picture. I see it on empire direct for £504, does that sound about right?

![]() But the Panasonic plasmas are also very good. With a grand to spend I'd be looking at the Panasonics or the best Sony LCD I could get for that money. Dunno about the ghosting you describe on your FIL's Sony? I could only afford the bottom of the range Sony Bravia when I bought my HDTV but I can't say I've noticed anything like that on it? |

have a 32v4000 sony 32" tv and its ok but for me motion smearing and noticeable response time is too much, so will prob (once get paid in jan) send it back to amazon and go for a 32' lxd85 panasonic tv (£100 more)- pana. seem to have a good rep - either pana or sony would be a wise choice, and perhaps a ps3?

I am leaning to the 37PX80. Is burn in etc a big issue with these, and will the fact my kids watch the kids channels all day with the logo be a problem? If so its between the TX32LZD85 and the 32' lxd85.

I have chosen a Samsung LE37686 in the end. (Ordered) I compared the screens of this and the PX80 side by side and the samsung had the edge for me. It was the extremely smooth motion of the Samsung that won it for me, plus the wife prefered that one. It definitely does come down to personal opinion in the end and there is no subtitute for going to a few shops comparing screens.
