Does anyone else think the MALE celebrity has a much harder job than the female celebrity?

Generally it is the male who is the lead dancer, so I think Tom has done a sterling job, especially considering Rachel came from a song/dance background and I consider Lisa and Rachel to be at a greater advantage all round than Tom!

May the best person win, because whoever wins, a lot of us will feel disappointed!

would like Tom to win both the girls have had proffessional dance training in at least ballet and tap dancing which put them at an advantage from day one, so Tom has always had the harder job

No I don't think they do, Alesha proved that last year

Yes. I went to dance classes about a month ago and they told us there the woman had the easy job and didn't have to remember anything because the man has to do all the remembering and pull her and push her and grab her to wear she's supposed to go so he's got a MUCH harder job.

I think women are under more pressure, as they're expected to be good at dancing. If a man shows that he can move at all, then he's given ridiculous scores. Gethin was very stiff during his jive, but he tried so he got 37. Darren was a "real bloke" who was just "having a go" so he won the competition (even though he was crap).

Yes. It is harder for the man to do it WELL.
And Tom does dance fairly well.

You only have to see how the male pros propel their females around. With assurance and authority.

When the men dance badly it is painful to watch. Much more so than when the women aren't so good.

I think a lot of fuss is made about the man having to lead, but in this competition everyone knows the next step and so there is no need to signal to the female partner, although you do have to look as if you are leading.

So in this competition I think not (especially since the women have to dance in those heels), but in a social situation, then I think the man does have the harder task.

i think the male has the harder job in ballroom because leading is quite hard ... i hav to be the man in my dance class and i find it tricky sometimes... however i think the female has a harder job in the latin dances especially the ones with alot of spinning !!

maybe as far as the dancing goes but the ladies have the harder time pulling in the votes!

I totally don't think it's simply up to a man to lead, it is just not black and white like that (I'm talking about Latin here, as I don't dance any Standard myself, and am saying this from my own experience) - I believe it is 50/50 - firstly, sometimes it is the lady who will initiate a movement, and even when it is initiated by the man, the lady first has to choose to accept that lead, because if she doesn't, she is going absolutely nowhere!

for the show i would say its the women who have it harder after all they have to cry each episode and put up with journos printing rubbish about the romance and getting to close to the partner (yes the men do to but not as bad) each year
for dancing in the real world i would say yes not that i know im only saying it as its the excuse i always tell my wife for the reason im so bad and never take her dancing

Yes, they do - and whilst sometimes mentioned in passing by the judges, it seems that this fact is never reflected in the scoring.

Both males and females have a pretty hard job. Some women find it difficult to be led - especially by a man with a poor lead - and they have to trust and go with their partners. The good lead offered by the male pros inspires confidence and trust so the female celebs have an advantage here.

The male celebs, as a previous poster said, only have to look as if they are leading, but are 'back led' by the female pro's to some extent.

To lead well, even with a rehearsed routine, the male celeb has to be confident of the steps and movements of the hands etc and move with authority (not force). This is hard.

The female often has trickier steps and moves to master though - so that is hard in a different way. For example, it took me ages to master the foxtrot as a female, yet I mastered it very, very quickly as a male. And, as other posters have said, the moves of the female in Latin can very very tricky to do well, even with a male celeb doing the leading.

Agreed a bit on Gethin's jive (although i loved it), but Darren Gough wasn't ALL crap - some of his latin wasn't great, but his ballroom was really good in general!

Always easy to have a pop at Darren even though he's done more to popularise ballroom dancing than any other contestant.

As for his dancing his Latin was by no means shabby, his Jive was great, his Paso terrific and his ballroom excellent.

I still remember that fish thing and Len's face.
And Darren Gough's Quickstep was outstanding. Even on last year's Xmas Special he was as light as a feather... and it wasn't until he and Lilia had finished dancing that he allowed everyone to see what it'd taken out of him.

Perhaps they should run the competition in two halves male winner and female winner. I reckon that might be fairer in the long run. Thinking back to previous series I think that would have been more satisfying. Just think of the champions we probably would have had.

Zoe, Louisa, Gethin, Matt ?? as well as the ones that did win their series.

That is SO true, unless they happen to be an Alesha.

I agree and maybe thats also a reason for having a male winner and a female winner.

that would be great. I was torn between Alesha and gethin last year. Would have been so much easier for me if they had a male and female winner well just as long as Gethin was the male that year.
And then Rachel could have won this year too.

Harder job in terms of leading and all, but ironically easier to be an audience magnet if he's likable.

Nancy, you know I love you, but I must disagree about Darren's Paso. I feel it's just slightly below that Tomapasta expression that Chambers pulled and he looked stilted and actually rather camp in a butchy sort of way (ironic, I know).

No no. I don't see why it's so popular.

It's funny, for the six series now, we have exactly three female winners, and three male.

I mean...
