Yes, the H525 has the */Clear and #/Enter buttons in the same place, which I have mapped Schedule and Media onto, respectively. Again a slight shift of the hand is needed to get to them, which is what is annoying ATM...

The trick is to keep all the buttons that is needed for an activity (e.g. deleting and sorting recordings in the Media list) in one area to be all pressable by the thumb!

If an H1 owner says 'the tapping action with the other hand works a treat' - I'll get one right now (only joking, unless he says have a £100 too )

Its not hard to remember things, I only have to assign the opt+ key and that will be assigned to the last channel key which is in the same place.

Im even going to use it for my AC and Comp 5.1 control.

I will need to use the vol up and down for temp and the prog up and down for the timer for the AC but its all done logically.

As for the 5.1 remote for the comp, key 5 is assigned to 5.1, key 2 for 2.0 and the play, pause seek buttons etc are assigned for the centre, front, rear and SW up and down, 4 rows of 2 make it easy to remember.

Everything else is correctly labelled.

Flyer, (assuming you are talking about the Philips SRU8008) where are you going to put the Schedule, and Media functions... (and what about others, like the List and TV/Radio buttons?)

Still, I hope Harmony will bring an H1 for the UK, with hard colour buttons... if we have to program the colour buttons onto the soft touch screen for every activity - it takes up 4 soft buttons of the screen - a waste!

I never use the schedule button anyway, its right out of the way on the humax so I use guide then yellow to get to it, it will be the same on the Philips.

The Media button will the Menu on the Philips, exactly the same place it is on the Humax.

I hardly ever use the menu button on the Humax or the TV/Radio button but they will be assigned to the clear and enter buttons at the bottom. Probably the only 2 that I will have to remember as they arent logical.

As for the list button, I havent used it once.

I thought all this through and it didnt work out on the Harmony for me, I am only not assigning buttons I never use anyway with the Philips (subs, bookmarks, text, sound etc)

For TV I have an electronic SCART switcher so I don't normally have to change the TV inputs. The only time I do is when watching Freesat through HDMI from my computer. Unfortunately there's no practical way to program that into the Harmony (or any other remote I suspect).

I can either press 'Next input' four (five?) times to go from SCART1 to HDMI then six or seven (!) to go from HDMI back to SCART1. Or try and use the menu which is the same problem. The Harmony software claims that my TV has commands for each input but they aren't on the Toshiba remote and don't seem to work.

I only do that for HD content so at present I'm putting up with just using the TV remote since there isn't much HD to watch anyway

Sorry to appear dense but what does 'media' do?

'Schedule' I get from both Sky and Humax by pressing the dedicated 'Guide' button.

For the Hummy 'Menu' takes me to the box main menu which gives access to 'Option'.

The Sky doesn't have 'Menu' programmed for some reason. I just use 'Guide' then right arrow.

Ordinarily I'd agree but when discussing an all-in-one remote that doesn't really work

"Media" brings up your recorded programs on the Humax Freesat-HDR

First things first. Great remote so far. Only £27 from Amazon. Received yesterday. Compared to the Humax controller - Light years better. Having problem though with accessing Media consistently. Have set up * key to access Media, but seems to cycle too quickly or not at all and as a result intermittent access is gained to Recorded material. Notice that when original remote calls up media there is a slight delay as it loads up. I guess the solution lies in adjusting delays on the remote. Please post some settings that have worked on your Harmony. Settings I have for HDR are. Power on Delay 1500ms. Inter-key Delay 100ms. Inter Device Delay 500ms. Repeats 0

Media code wasn't set up in the database for my Harmony One when I got it and did the first download so I taught it. It works fine on the assigned button with no tweaking. Did you use "learn infrared" or "learn raw"?

Thanks for reply. Went the simple way i.e. "learn infrared". Haven't gone near Raw as I am basically a technophobe. Willing to try if its the only way to overcome this.

Ah. Actually having got home it appears that I use a screen button for the library on the 9200 so I'd probably do that for the HDR as well. That means there's no spare screen buttons but it fits

I had to use raw for one of the buttons; not media, but I can't remember which one. It wasn't hard. But if you're stuck, the Logitech support staff are the stuff of legends. You send an email with your problem, they reply within a day telling you to update your remote from the application and hey presto, it works.

Yip. Media updated using Raw mode and successful result achieved. Takes Media longer to populate so that may have caused the failure to operate after using "Learn Infrared" route. Absolute gem of a controller now. Added other "learned" commands and customised controller for ease of use.
Now the ultimate Test.

I have a Harmony 525 remote, and on those commands that were not in the library I found that sometimes just a 'short tap' on the original remote when doing the learning operation would prevent this over-run of commands. The shortest tap you could get away with, while teaching the command successfully was usually the answer.

I found that I had to teach the remote the volume commands for my amp, onto every device. This way no matter what device I have selected, the volume controls always turn the amp up and down.

My old Philips universal remote(s) could map commands from one device, to another which achieved the same thing. Unfortunately the Philips remote(s) would often crash completely and lose all their settings, along with all devices AND all learned commands. Hence the reason I replaced it with something I could save my settings onto the computer so that if the remote failed, I didn't need to start from scratch again. The Harmony has been a superb device and hasn't once (touch wood) failed in 24 months or so.

I have a 525 (recently purchased). I thought Raw mode was a function of the higher end remotes until I saw your post.

What is Raw mode and does the 525 have it ?

It is a way of learning codes from the original remote, if that code is not in the database... If normal method of learning does not work, then learning in raw mode will most likely to work. The H525 can learn in raw mode, yes.

For those interested, the cheapest I have seen the Harmony One is from Amazon at £88.42, and it's in stock.
I thought 'sod it' and ordered one. Amazon are usually a quick delivery for me, so I shall be able to post my findings in a few days. I will have the four colours, the Media, and Schedule as the six soft buttons, with Opt+ as a soft button on page 2 and the '+' hard button. In the middle of the remote above the d-pad is buttons for up and down (between Menu and Info etc), and I shall also have them as Media and Schedule as another option (up for up-coming recordings, see?). I think I'll be quite happy with this arrangement.

For the soft colour buttons, in order to make sure I don't press on the wrong one by mistake, i've setup the touch screen menu differently. There are six slots available (3 rows of 2) on each screen. In order to space out the buttons, I left the middle two slots blank.

Right, the Philips turned up today and I have everything set up already.

Its exactly the same size as the humax but thankfully the number buttons are out of the way as they are never used. The build quality is fine although the dial button has a bit of give in it but it functions correctly, thats the only negative Ive found so far.

Theres no messing about with a PC, all my AV stuff was already pre programmed including the humax. I manually programmed my AC and comp 5.1 system and that took 2 mins for each item.

Its quick to get anywhere and it even seems to be wife/kid proof.

EG I assigning the exit and media buttons to the * and enter key with the opt on the last button. So for me its all one touch.

For the wife/kids/lesser used buttons. You can add them to the more key where you can scroll through.

Exit
Bookmarks
and all the other buttons at the bottom of the humax if you want.

This way you can have 100% of any remote on the philips as you never run out of buttons and so have to drop features from your device.

My Sony doesnt have a button assigned to each input but the remote is still able to control devices with the activities button.

I have 2 or 3 touches to watch my comp, DVD or the watch or listen to the Humax.

Best of all, I didnt even need the manual to set everything up.

Raw, as opposed to 'analysed' (which is the normal mode for the Harmony)... just copy the IR signal exactly as it comes out of the original remote...

If you have problems learning commands from the original remote (i.e. when used on the Harmony, the command is performed twice, etc), then when in the learning commands part of the Harmony software, there is an option to learn the command as a 'raw' command...

When you get on the Learn Command page, click on the Custom button at the bottom right of the page to get to the 'Learn Raw' buttons...
