I think it is quite sweet that the music snobs have had a chance to blow the cobwebs off themselves and get a bit of an airing.

Those poor music snobs have been sitting in their dusty attics listening to scratchy gramophone music on 33 and 78rpm for years.

They have had no one else to talk to about their passion for underground artists that nobody has ever heard of (exept the elite)

It must be great to come together on the forum with fellow music anoraks and moan about riff-raff music lovers that enjoy X-factor bubble-gum pop instant music.

It is nice that people that like this 'top secret' music are able to chat to 'common' pop music lovers.

It is fantastic that 'normal' people have had the chance to listen to some great music that they had never heard of before x-factor.

It is nice that new artists are able to interpret this old music in new ways to suit modern tastes.

The music snobs are kinda cute....

I feel a bit sorry for them as they feel that their lovely music has been spoilt. I think they should be greatful that they have now got plenty of likeminded people to chat to about their music to on the forum..

They can enjoy a good whinge and moan aswell which is nice!

Why does this suddenly feel like snobbery in reverse?

Not so much snobbery in reverse, but celebrating ignorance.

No it is celebrating dusty music anoraks coming out of the attic to share their music with the masses.

Dust is character building - where would Miss Haversham have been without a bit of dust ?

I take it you're not familiar with the concept of "Celebrating Ignorance", but it's a fairly well documented phenomena.

I agree, but now I've had a chance to listen to the music that music snobs love and claim is ruined, I now know why it isn't mainstream- because its rubbish

Jeff Buckley is hardly a secret - anyone interested in music would have heard his name in the last 10-15 years or so.

Whichever way you care to debate synthetic X-Factor shite vs 'scratchy 33 rpm gramophones', a crap and interminably over-rated song is a crap and interminably over-rated song.

Yeah - I can remember when I was 12 - I thought The Bay City Rollers were the best thing ever and everything else was rubbish. They were really mainstream - and they were brilliant weren't they ? - cos everyone still listens to them and calls them musical icons even after all these years...

Oh !

Very well put. It's almost as if there's a badge of honour for some people if they've never heard of Buckley, like it's something to be proud of. If people actually broadened their horizons and sampled new music, then people would respect their educated opinions more and praise of Alex's version would hold more weight.

I think it was a little over a month ago, someone started a negative thread about Diana saying she copied her vocal patterns off Cat Power. And what did I do in retaliation to this slight against Diana? I went out a bought a Cat Power CD.

I'm sure some Alex fans who's never heard of Buckley, might enjoy his work if they look further than Hallelujah but that's never going to happen with this "You vs. Us" mentality.

Alexandra said on Radio One last night that she loves Jeff Buckley's version of the song.

I don't like the thought of a music snob at number one, especially at Christmas.

Alex can't be classed as a music snob because she said that she hadn't heard of the song Hallelujah either until this x-factor business...
