Feel exactly the same, will give up on this show now...I have become very disenchanted with it all

Thoughful and considered post Oldshep56.

Personally I never disliked Lisa or Rachel but my fave female celeb was Jodie - I was really rooting for her.
As for the blokes - Austin and Tom were my faves.

All the interviews and training footage ( I watched ITT throughout) does influence voters preferences and people will warm to some and not others.

Going back to Lisa and Rachel, I never really got the warm fuzzy feeling that I did with the others during the dances. (Apart from Rachel's Rhumba)

I have the feeling that had it been down to the public vote Lisa and Rachel would have been long gone and we would have had an Austin/Tom/Christine final.

Like another poster said, lots of different reasons make up a valid vote.

I would have been disappointed if either of the girls' showdances had won.

Or if the winner of the public vote hadn't won and the judges had had the final say.

I was much more disappointed when Maren won due to the housewives' vote. Now that WAS depressing.

Slightly disappointed when Alesha won last year, as she just annoyed me. But have been delighted with all the other winners.

Who is Maren?

Ive not had a problem with any of the winners so far. Some werent my favs like Darren Gough and this year rachel was my fav but im glad Tom won over Lisa really didnt like her far too over rated by the judges.

I couldn’t believe it when due to my work I was away in Spain last weekend meaning I would miss the Final. Luckily, wifey kept me up to date with the scores etc. When she sent me the text saying Lisa was first out, I was gobsmacked to say the least. At that point, I just knew Tom going to win and was not surprised when she rang with the final result.
Now I know there are lots of amateur and professional dancers along with teachers use these boards and I will admit to ‘knowing nothing’ but why was everyone so against the girls?
This programme is an entertainment programme and quite honestly, it is NOT the same as the old Come Dancing series (which I am old enough to remember, unfortunately). I have always felt the programme was aimed at people like me. A 53 year old hairy arsed trucker who is overweight. The programme has viewing figures of 12 million and if only 1% of those take up dance as a result of it, then that’s 100,000 new people keeping you teachers in business. Or is this whole dance business a closed shop??
I was a typical bloke concerning this programme. I used to ask wifey ‘why she was watching this crap’ on a weekly basis and disappear upstairs when it came on. Then one week, I went downstairs to go to toilet and as I walked through the lounge, I looked and said to wifey ‘Isn’t that one of the Spice Girls?’ and sat on the end of the sofa. I was hooked!!!! I cheered for Louisa and was disappointed when she went out.
Last year I waited in eager anticipation for the start of the series and from Week One, we were both Mattesha fans. I got it right last year although I was gobsmacked at how Matt made it to the Final instead of Gethin due to his two ‘unfinished’ dances.
This year no one really caught my eye. I said to wifey that Austin and Tom were the best among the men and that the women looked very strong this year. As the weeks went by, I just enjoyed the dancing. I must be one of the few people that actually enjoyed John and Christina’s Paso Dobla. For the first time, I was able to ‘see the story’. Every week I made my prediction and was right nearly every time. Then I decided I wanted Vincent to win just to poke Flavia in the eye after her ‘naughtiness’ last year. I want not impressed by Rachel or Lisa at first but as the weeks went by, I could see a definite improvement in Lisa. She was all legs and gawky the first few weeks. Rachel ended up in a dance off and the next week produced that rumba. BUT with Tom and Austin, as good as they were, I NEVER saw any improvement in them. They started the competition at a standard and to my untrained eye never made much progress. Unlike the two girls, who made huge strides.
Sorry, all you Tom fans, but I thought he was NOT a worthy winner. He should not have been in the Final anyway. His dancing was definetly off a lower quality last week and the stumble in the Foxtrot should have ruled him out of the Final two this week. The one concession I will make though is that I thought their Showdance was way much better than Vincents!! That was amazing choreography to my eye and perfectly executed.
I was never a major fan off any one of the celebrities this year but I do like to see fair play and I think the GBP made a mockery of Lisa and Rachel’s efforts this year. Both of the girls made tremendous improvement and Tom is a very lucky winner.
I did actually wonder if the GBP voted for Tom because of Camilla (my God, what a sour face she had on while waiting the result). After all, she was robbed off a Final spot last year.
I am, in fact, so disappointed at the result, I may well not watch next years programme as it is obviously not about who makes the most progress and is the better dancer anymore but about who can impress the public from the very beginning.”

Did you vote for Rachel - voting is how people win - people vote for whom they like -- Tom was great to watch, Rachel may have been 'perfect' but boring to watch, also rachel and lisa often did slow dances wherethey had plenty oftime to remember each step. but voting is the reason

Thank you for your gargantuan effort but:

a) it's been covered already

b) I couldn't disagree more - Tom, along with Austin, was one of the best and most enjoyable to watch in the competition from the start, Lisa started hopelessly and didn't make the improvement that the judges seemed set on convincing the public that she had (she remained "all legs and gawky" to the end) and though Rachel was technically good she was uninspiring and rather dull. Tom and Camilla were deserved winners and the couple who should have been in the final against them was Austin and Erin.

Now I am extremely disappointed!!
Two people have informed me that this has already been covered.
Two very small minded people chose to pull me on my use of grammer.
Two answers ...... to point one, I spend a lot of time away from home so don't have all day to sit and read every post that is made on here
to point two ........
I DID state in my original post I am a 53 year old hairy arsed trucker who drives all over Europe week after week, month after month. I was down in Valencia Saturday night loading 26 pallets of oranges so that all you extremely well educated people could put an orange in the kiddies stockings tonight!!!

Last year I stuck to the Mattesha thread and had a good laugh with the people in there.
This year I have ventured out into the big wide world of the Forum as a whole and discovered that although I am 'just' an hairy arsed trucker, I am not as ignorant as some on here.
To those that took the time to reply to my original question sensibly and give me another insight into why Tom won, thank you.
To those that decided I was unworthy of a proper answer, I could use some good old truckers language to you but it would most probably been censored.

As someone who knew nothing about dance two years ago, perhaps I saw things this year that were in my imagination ie the improvements I thought I saw in Lisa and Rachel.
I never mentioned Jodie in my first post as the poor girl was on a loser from the beginning being so tall but I had also forgotten she did become a favourite of mine

A situation similar to that which occurred in the semi-final has occurred in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special where FOUR dancers tied for first place. It was decided to ask head judge Len Goodman to order these four dancers. According to Karen Hardy on BBC Breakfast, this is normal procedure in the dancing world. Had Len done this in the semi-final, the leader board would have looked like this:

Lisa 3 (as he awarded her 20/20)
Rachel 2 (as he awarded her 18/20)
Tom 1

It was obvious from the leader board at the beginning of the final that Tom had had the most viewer votes, giving him a further 3 points, followed by Rachel and then Lisa. As this is an exact reversal of the judges’ points, they would have all ended up with 4 points. However, as the viewers’ votes take precedence, Tom would have gone through to the final, leaving Rachel and Lisa in the dance-off.

Therefore it WAS right that Tom should go through to the final. It was also right that he win the final as this was decided in exactly the same way as every other final. It is not the first time that the best dancer has stumbled at the last hurdle (sorry Colin, no pun intended) and I doubt it will be the last.

I was very disappointed with the result, but not surprised. Could we please end this nonsense about the 'public' deciding? The vote is a completely arbitrary subset of the public consisting of those who have the money and inclination to vote, many of whom will vote many times. I accept that's the way it is, but please don't let's build this up as some kind of democratic choice by the public. If as rumoured the show is based purely on phone votes in the future I definitely won't be watching.

Working long hours may be your excuse but the title of your post could at least be correct, otherwise it really makes you look like an old hairy arsed trucker.

It really is time this whinging theme was put to bed now, it is an entertainment show, the public vote decides the winner, if you dont like the result then next time vote more or dont watch.

Have a nice day everyone

well, i've only dipped in and out of this series as i've felt over the last couple of years injustices have been done to people and some of them are absolutely hero worshipped beyond the realms of normality - ie karen & ramprakash to name just two.

people just need to vote with their on/off button.

An old, hairy-arsed trucker probably has less use for correct grammar than a pedant.

As to the winner, I had absolutely no preference regarding the three finalists. None of them roused any enthusiasm in me, which was a disappointment as I've always had a definite favourite before.

Thank you, Muggsy, that's exactly how wifey and I felt about this years competition. None of them 'floated my boat' ................. as an aside, I have had the time over the last couple of days to read a good few of the threads about last Saturday. God, I hadn't realised the amount of ill feeling towards Tom!! Although I was disappointed about him winning, I wasn't as nasty as some posts I have seen on threads. At least I had the good grace to say I thought his and Camilla's Showdance was superb. When I got home Tuesday afternoon and came up to watch the Final on iPlayer, wifey told me to look out for the Showdance and after watching it, I could see why people may have voted for him.

I wouldn't get bent out of shape over the reponses on any board to be honest - or take it personally. I am not sure why you feel the need to mention your job in such a high profile way - I am sure people are not judging you on this. Do only 'well-educated' people buy oranges, and are all truck drivers not well educated? I am surprised.

I think Tom won because people warmed to him more than the other two, and I think that the viewers felt rather manipulated this year and the result may have been a bit of a backlash.

It's true. Don't take things personally in this forum. No point. Just write what you think in the most polite way possible. Sometimes we slipped and put in too much 'irony' that can be seen as 'sarcasm'. Merry Christmas.

Hi, Lou-kate ....... I only described my job as it is the easiest way to explain why I am not always up to date. The point about our education is a sly dig as the majority of people in this country consider truck drivers to be stupid ignoramuses who 'take up their road space' whilst in fact, there are many very well educated people in this industry. I was quite peeved that whilst a majority answered my original question sensibly, as you have, two people decided to pick me up on my grammer. Rather childish, I thought.
The remark about putting oranges in stockings was very tongue in cheek.
As for the manipulation this year...... yes, I can go with that!! Very much so

Lisa didn't make "tremendous improvement". If you take out her first dance she hasn't improved more than anyone.

I wasn't disappointed. I wanted Rachel & Vincent to win but I thought Tom & Camilla deserved it. I was overjoyed with the final 2 and it was the final 2 I had wanted all along.

Strangely, when I listen to Classic FM Jamie Crick's requests, I often get people who said they were builders, white van man and yes truck drivers as well, asking for their favourite 'ditties' to me played.

The most interesting thing is that this builder (his name is Dave) requesting for Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata 2nd Movement (Adagio Cantabile) 'to help him and his mates work', while this white van man requested his wife's favourite, Puccini's La Bohème (!!!), specifically one sung by Pavarotti.

Thing is, I feel there's nothing wrong even for grammar police to go around spotting mistakes like that. Not being a native in this country, people have been 'kind' enough to correct my mistakes, and I learnt from it. They often don't mean to be offensive. When you see it that way you'll feel much better about yourself.
