HELP HELP.
I just bought the SONY RDRHXD890S 160GB Hard Drive DVD Recorder with Freeview.

I also have SONY Trinitron KD-28 DL11U with integrated Freeview.

I have been trying now for an hour to set it up but I am struggling like hell. I am not a complete prat and have set dvds, vcr's etc before without any probs.
I have read the instructions to the letter but still cant even get the set up menu on the TV.

xmas I will get murdered in my sleep if I dont get it sorted... THANK YOU

Oh Dear! Perhaps you could describe in more detail what's happening (or not happening).

Is the Sony 890 even powered up? How have you connected it?

The machine could be faulty if you can't even see a set up menu. Also, have you tried connecting it using another cable?

Hi I am just using the rf leads at the moment with the aerial lead directly into the pvr then out of the pvr to the tv

As with most recorders there's no RF modulator in them, you need to connect it via SCART.

Are you sure you've looked at the manual? In there you'll see detailed diagrams of various connection methods, none of which just involve an RF lead.

You need to connect the Sony 890 to the TV using a Scart lead, then you'll see its output on one of the TV's AV channels. You should set the output of the Sony recorder to RGB.

Also, if you want to be able to record both analogue and digital terrestrial signals on the Sony you'll need to connect an RF lead from aerial point to Sony recorder digital in, then another RF lead from Sony recorder digital out to Sony recorder analogue in, then another RF lead from Sony recorder analogue out to TV. This loops the RF signal through both tuners in the Sony recorder and out to the TV.
