Much better from Brucie, even saying what rubbish his joke-writers provide for him, and the hilarious way he deliberately forgot Bruno. Doddery he is NOT!

I did not get Brucie tonight. Is he getting irritable in his old age? He mentioned John Seargent thinking he has won again - which is even more random than the first time. Let it lie Brucie. And he was plain rude to Tess when she tried to put in a little ad lib. She actually looked really cross, which made me giggle.

Sometimes Bruce can make me laugh out loud in the right way - when he mentioned his 'knock back' about the biscuits and Kelly Brooke - he can be witty. But he can also be inappropriate, and it occurs to me that I have just in fact described my grandad.

Brucie writes his OWN gags - check out the credits at the end of the show if you dont believe me!!

I didn't like Brucie tonight. I thought his act came across as very dated. Usually I like him but thought it was a bit embarrassing tonight...

That's irony from Brucie, as was forgetting Bruno.

I always enjoy Brucie. He isn't as sharp as he was in his heyday, but it doesn't matter how well his jokes go down (sometimes they bomb and sometimes they hit dead centre). The thing is, he brings an old fashioned human warmth to the show that marks it out from it's rivals. Hence we have a four cornered family appeal, served without a shred of sleaziness or manipulative sentimentality. He appeals on a personal level and I think this breaks down barriers, working in a way that is very wholesome. When he goes the show will change intrinsically and, for me, that will be a change for the worse.

Yep he was back on his old toe-curlingly unfunny FFW over him form...

His joke about John Sargent went down like a lead balloon. He clearly ad-lib there as he wasn't looking at the screen. So bad, bad Brucie!

He did say when one of his other jokes didn't do well (are we surprised) he blamed the script. C'mon he okayed the script, as far as I gathered from this forum.

His main problem might be coping with the producer's directions and the stress of the live show. It's showing. He was rude even to his co-host and he hurries the award giving except when it comes to shoehorning in his scripted jokes of course.

But he was vigorous again (for his age) and not apologetic (for his form), so he's back in the saddle. Maybe he's got over the flu. He's a trooper and a bit irritable.

I read somewhere that Bruce was very irritated with the production team taking nearly seven hours to record a one hour show because of another voting cock-up.

I found him a bit out of step when I was watching it as it aired, but I was concentrated on the dancing. Yet I still found him unnecessarily sharp and quite rude, and there weren't any problems at that point. I've since watched it again on iPlayer and you can see the annoyance in his eyes and face, it's not only his off-handedness. Tess ad-libbed, once, and he shot her down in flames. That is not the mark of a professional. He didn't understand what she'd said and he "punished" her for it. I'm reminded of Bruce Forsyth from the 70's.

That joke about Jon Sargeant shows that he's out of step with his audience. Maybe it's his personal opinion and he's entitled to that, but he has an audience as well who just may not appreciate him using Jon Sargeant as his unwilling stooge. And I'm one of those of the opinion that Jon Sargeant was wrong to walk. Maybe Tess wouldn't be as annoying as she is if she wasn't pidgeon-holed as Brucie's obligatory blonde. I've seen one interview with her, albeit very short, and she surprised the hell out of me. Even her voice was different.

Would Strictly be the same without Bruce Forsyth? I don't know. But I don't think that fear of losing what Strictly intrinsically is should be an excuse for any kind of behaviour it's host wants to exhibit. If that's Bruce back on form, I personally don't like it.

I too thought he was out of order with the remarks about John. Completely unnecessary. I am of the opinion that he should give up and let someone younger and more with it take over. As long as it isn't Graham Norton. I would sooner have Bruce wheeled out in a chair than that!

Looks like he's still not going to get a flippin' knighthood though

Forsythe is a self-absorbed arse. Not opinion, fact.

I thought he was awful.
He's been on form a couple of times this season but when he's bad he is very poor.

I agree, the stumbling over the jokes was pathetic, they have to rein back his part to what he can actually manage , shouts of 'get on with it you old duffer' from our house.

He's turned into a pathetic old man. A bit like the old great-uncle at a wedding who insists on singing because he genuinely believes everyone wants him to. His dancing isn't so good these days, his 'ad libbing' laboured and his singing sounds like a gander's last gasp. I used to be a big fan, but now I just wish he would retire gracefully. I want to remember the great talent he was, not the nasty old man he is fast becoming.

Brucie is an old git, is that what people are saying ? Like one of Harry Enfield's Old Gits - ? I think not. Doddery he is not, just a bit nasty, which is good, gives his performance an edge.

Apart from being rude to Tess, he also said (I think to Jill and Darren after they'd won) "come on, you've got to work for it".

Something he might care to think about, the rude old sod.

Which was very clearly a joke - he was moving the show along because they needed to do the last dance...

I thought he was on top form last night actually.

I've actually cringed at most of his "jokes" this year - I just do not find him funny.
