Just watched the Xmas special today, and Brucy says ''Did you see John, he thought he had won!''

Leave him alone Bruce!!!

I think he's jealous of John's popularity.

Yes, JS is a hard-nosed political journalist. He has coped with the likes of Margaret Thatcher, and has sparred with Bernard Ingham. If he can walk away from those two with no battle scars (physically or emotionally) then he can certainly stick up for himself and hold his own.

Agreed but does it make it ok?

Bruce was just pointing out that John wasn't the winner and shouldn't have pushed to the front in the way that he had. John is obviously a limelight-seeker and needed putting in his place.

I don't really thinks he needs to seek the limelight on SCD given his already high profile

Why not? John Sergeant was a joke.

John Sergent was funnier than Bruce has been for the entire series...

Yes I did see him, and no, he didn't look like he thought he'd won, he was just in Bruce's line of sight so got picked on.

Wow....is he the non sense of humour zone???

Bruce made a joke which was justified. As were his comments in the final.

Some of you are still smarting about John going so will jump up and down about anything contrary to his memory (including this post).

Bruce has been in the business for over 70 years. How many people has he made jokes about in hiis time? And think to yourselves. Have you ever made a joke about anyone famous? Or anyone you know? How horrible do they feel? Or do you not care really?

Anyway, I'm sure that Sergeant has been crying himself to sleep since before Christmas because of that nasty Bruce. And I'm sure he's feeling better for knowing that you are all outraged on his behalf.

Can I suggest you all grow a sense of humour and move on?

Bruce was quite right in his comments, John did think he was the star of the show. Bruce quite rightly put him in his place.

So, because Bruce is older than God, he should be allowed to publicly insult people on a very widely watched TV show, should he?

Don't get me wrong, I quite like Bruce and don't mind him joking with other celebrities - when it is obvious he is only joking. Unfortunately, in this instance, he certainly didn't give the impression that he was joking and that made it seem petty and uncalled for.

Of course, if he really HAD meant it as a joke, then he has definitely lost his sense of comic timing and it could be time for him to be gently packed off to Eastbourne to see out the rest of his days.

No....because he didn't insult anyone.

What was said was nothing different to what he says about Craig Arlene et al every week. Also he makes jokes about other celebs and dancers all the time.

Why does this particular line insult you more than others?

As a joke, yes. As a bit of banter, yes. As a bit of showbiz rough & tumble, yes.

Care to point out and explain this "public insult"?

Because you seem to have a rather novel definition of the word insult
