It was a joke, perhaps referring back to John saying he could have won the show. Lighten up. John can take it.
EDIT: In the old days Bruce seemed a bit like Barrymore to me, but he's mellowed with age and is kinder now.

He has been ill for several weeks, so perhaps he slipped back a bit into the acerbic mode, who knows.

Brevity is the soul of wit.
Repetition is not.

Can't believe how many people have no sense of humour! It was a joke! As was the joke in the final!! Lighten up people!

Bruce has digs at everyone. Why should John be exempt? Because he's old? If he's too old to be treated the same as everyone else, then he shouldn't have been on the show,.

Brucie's remark didn't seem to be a light hearted joke but a dig hoping for a laugh.

How could he and the Judges jokes about John's dancing when it the time they were deadly serious about how outrageous a 'better' dancer had lost a place on the show.

It would seem John and the public who were enjoying themselves, truly got up the noses of the judges and producers.

Neither Bruce or the Judges displayed a sense of humour at the time the public consistently voted for John. Bruce was very 'sympathetic' with the position the Judges find themselves in....that was the joke.

He's just taken all his Kate Garraway jokes from last year and punched holes in them to replace her name with John's. I don't see the problem. Unless you think he automatically deserves a greater degree of respect than she does.

Bruce,

John is not doddery,
doddery John is not.

With Kate, the judges and Bruce laughed at her attempts as did Kate herself but they knew she'd soon be off the show.

John laughed at his attempts and the judges comments, but when John kept avoiding the dance-off the judges lost their sense of humour. It was the Judges who laid guilt at the feet of John for Cherie's exit from the show.

Why no jokes about how the judges took the matter so seriuosly or the comments made by Cherie's professional partner?

Bruce, The judges and producers need to loosen up or it will become strictly a competition shunted off to a late night spot.

The judges did exactly the same thing when Gabby went out last year. Exactly the same trolling around breakfast news slagging Kate off, exactly the same snide comments about how awful it was that "deserving" dancers were going out in favour of "people who can't dance", and they even had celebrities on the Results Show whining about how Kate was ruining the show for Poor Anton and that she should quit to maintain her dignity, which is something that John never got.

And there are plenty of jokes at the judges expense every week. At how they talk rubbish, at how the audience just want them to shut up, at how they're mean, functionally retarded, or lead around entirely by their libido. I'm not seeing this show where Bruce treats the judges with respect to be honest.

I think it was just a joke. Some of Bruces jokes do go way over my head but i dont think hes intentially spiteful about anyone. Anyway he said in an interview that he really liked John.

I like John. I like Bruce. And I suspect they also get on well.

It was a joke! Just like the incident in the final.

Some people are desperate to find nastiness where it doesn't exist...

I dunno when he said it in the final it appeared like a gag to me but when Brucie repeated it for the Crimbo special it sounded like he actually meant it.

I could be wrong of course but then I guess not finding Brucie funny I can't always tell when he's serious or not - also I think a well-renowed wit said that 'many a true word is said in jest' and certainly some people use humour to express with their opinion and give them a get out clause if it's not well received.
